When is a pregnancy vesicle visible? When can an embryo be seen on ultrasound? What are the standards for the size of the gestational sac for a given week of pregnancy? What should a pregnancy bubble look like in a given week? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.

When is a pregnancy bubble visible on ultrasound?

Hello. For a long time (1,5 years) my husband and I have been trying to have a baby. In fact, as much as possible, we have intercourse on every fertile day. I am under the constant supervision of a gynecologist, we monitor my menstrual cycle. However, this month I didn’t get my period, the first thing I did was a pregnancy test and it came out positive! I called my gynecologist right away, she told me to do a beta hcg test to confirm my pregnancy. It shows that I am 4 weeks pregnant!

My doctor said that the confirmation ultrasound will be performed by me only around the 6th – 7th week of pregnancy, because earlier the gestational bubble and the embryo may not be visible. I was terrified by this information, not only was we trying for a child for so long, but also that.

Please answer me when you see it pregnancy vesicle? Is an embryo immediately visible in the gestational sac? Are there any norms of the pregnancy follicle for a given week of pregnancy? What should a pregnancy vesicle look like in the 7th week of pregnancy (then I will be at the gynecologist for an ultrasound)? Should I be worried? Please send me a reply, best regards, Iga.

The doctor explains when a gestational sac is visible

A pregnancy bladder can be visualized as early as 4-5 weeks of pregnancy in intravaginal ultrasound. This means that if you come to the gynecologist in 6-7 weeks of pregnancy, i.e. in the first pregnancy ultrasound recommended by the Polish Gynecological Society * (check), the pregnancy vesicle should be as visible as possible and testify to the pregnancy.

During this visit, the doctor is obliged to conduct an interview, examine the patient, physically examine the reproductive organ (in the speculum and collapsed) and the breasts, assess the pH of vaginal discharge, perform a cytological examination, measure blood pressure, determine the height and weight, assess the risk of pregnancy and inform about how to lead a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy. Many of the above-mentioned services can be performed by a midwife instead of a doctor.

During this visit, the doctor is also required to order blood group and Rh tests, immune antibodies, blood count, urinalysis, fasting blood glucose and VDRL. The recommended, non-obligatory tests during this visit include a dental consultation and tests for HIV, HCV, toxoplasmosis in the IgG and IgM class, and rubella.

In the ultrasound performed before 10 weeks of pregnancy, the doctor assesses the pregnancy vesicle. It should be located in the endometrium, centrally in the uterine cavity. The yolk sac and the embryo should also be visualized, along with the measurement of its so-called parietal-seat length. With this measurement, you can most accurately determine the gestational age. Using the Doppler USG function, the fetal heart rate can also be determined after the 6th week of pregnancy.

regarding standards of the size of the pregnancy bubble – a healthy pregnancy should be confirmed by the value of MSD (i.e. length + height + follicle width divided by 3) greater than the measurement of the parietal-seat length by at least 5 mm. You absolutely should not worry and worry, if there is something wrong, the doctor will surely inform you if there are any irregularities.
