Now, the most likely scenario is that if we deal with another wave of pandemic, it will rather be postponed to November or December – the health minister assessed during the conference on Thursday.
When asked during a press conference in Poznań about the epidemic situation in Poland, the head of the Ministry of Health replied that the countries of our region are now close to their apogee. This is evidenced by the fact that we are dealing in both Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic with increasing hospitalizationbut at the same time the number of infections is slowly falling, which would mean that our region is currently at its peak.
«It is assumed that the period of about 20 weeks is the time when we gain such short-term immunity that puts off the fall wave that we always talked about in the context of the turn of September and October. Now the most likely scenario is that if we deal with another wave, it will rather be postponed to November, December»- emphasized Niedzielski.
He added that although the time perspective for the course of the pandemic has changed compared to last year, the ministry is still prepared for all scenarios. “This time, the wave we are dealing with is softer than the experts predicted” – he assessed.

The apogee of hospitalization in mid-August
The politician indicated that the number of infections is relatively low. However, he paid special attention to the number of hospitalizations, which reached around 2,5 thousand on Tuesday. people and increases by about 500 cases per week. “Here we can see that if this climax is in the middle of August, we can expect that this maximum ceiling will probably be around 4” – he explained.
He also asked Poles not to treat the restrictions as a mythical tool to fight the pandemic. He stressed that now the main tools to fight are vaccinations, new drugs and masks recommended for risk groups.
When asked about the testing policy, he judged it to be “rational, pragmatic, and based on some logic”.
“As this phase of the epidemic does not put so much pressure on the hospital system in the first place, this testing must target symptomatic people. There is no complete need to introduce a common testing system, because at the moment the impact of this virus, in terms of the severity of the course, but our immunity is definitely different »- he noted.
He assessed that in the current situation it is enough to fulfill the postulate of isolation through sick leave, as in the case of a typical infection.
