The pandemic made access to a doctor and medical services even more difficult, which contributed to the dissemination of new solutions in the health care system, especially teleportation. This new tool is undoubtedly an important step forward, but it should primarily be a supplement and not a substitute for traditional advice during a visit to the doctor.

Teleporting is not for everyone and not always!

– Telepainting will only be safe and effective if it guarantees adequate health care for the patient. Meanwhile, practice shows that it happens differently – says prof. Bolesław Samoliński, Head of the Department of Public and Environmental Health at the Medical University of Warsaw, chairman of the Patient Rights Experts Council, head of the Independent Team of Experts “Continue Curatio”.

– Statistics show that the number of consultations with primary care physicians and specialists has decreased significantly. The number of DILO cards issued and procedures performed, even interventional ones, also dropped dramatically. During the lockdown, there was an over 30% decrease in the number of patients treated in stroke units. For many of them, it means severe disability or death. The mentioned benefits cannot be replaced by teleportation. In such cases, she absolutely does not provide adequate care.

When is teleportation, and when is a visit?

A precise answer to the above question, in the form of specific guidelines, was developed by the Independent Team of Experts “Continue Curatio”.

– We have established an expert group consisting of representatives of various specialties, including diabetology, cardiology, oncology, paediatrics, allergology and gastrology. Its members presented recommendations that help to find out in which situations personal contact with a doctor is necessary, and in which telepathing is sufficient – explains Prof. Samolinian.

How to use telemedicine services?

Do you have a health problem and the lines to see the doctor are very long? Telemedicine is there for you! In just 10 minutes on the haloDoctor platform you can talk to a specialist and receive an e-prescription

The developed guidelines inform, inter alia, that regardless of the immediate disease, contact with a doctor is required by a patient who has noticed unusual symptoms, appearing for the first time in a chronic disease.

The premise for a direct visit to the doctor is also an adverse reaction in response to the changed drug. In addition, personal contact with a doctor is necessary when there are symptoms suggesting a heart attack or signals suggesting cancer.

A visit to the doctor is especially important in the event of disturbing symptoms in children. An apparently minor problem may mean a serious illness in them, and telepainting is not enough for a proper diagnosis.

However, telephone or internet contact with a doctor is sufficient when it comes to controlling the course of the prescribed therapy, writing out new prescriptions, referring to tests or discussing their results. Even in such cases, it is of key importance whether the physician knows the patient’s health condition and the course of treatment so far. Only this knowledge allows you to determine what type of consultation will be appropriate. Physician safety and efforts to reduce the pandemic are as important as the safety and health of each patient.
