When can you do a face peel?

The answer immediately suggests itself to this question: in autumn or early spring, during a period of low solar activity and the absence of severe frosts. But sometimes the principle of seasonality can be forgotten.

What you need to know about peeling

The name “peeling” comes from the English word peel – “to exfoliate”, “to peel”. So, technically, any procedure that renews the skin can be considered a peeling – whether it’s scrubbing, chemical exposure, dermabrasion in the salon, using an acid mask. Cosmetics for home use work on approximately the same principle as professional ones, only the concentration of the active substance and the strength of the impact are several times less.

Peeling is aimed at exfoliating the skin

Features and varieties of the procedure

It all depends on the nature of the skin damaging agent and the purpose of the peel.

  • Exfoliation of dead cells. Scrubbing, enzyme peeling, superficial dermabrasion cope with this. The latter is often used in salons as the initial stage of the procedure, so that the skin can better perceive the subsequent care.

  • Active renewal of the skin – the task of peeling affecting living cells. This deeper impact is the middle one. After such a procedure, the skin always peels off.

What kind of peeling and when is it better to do

You can update your skin in a variety of ways, choose the one that suits you in all respects.

Chemical peeling

What only problems are not affected by chemical peeling. Various acids act as a peeling agent:

  • AHA (fruit);

  • BHA (salicylic);

  • retinoic;

  • trichloroacetic (for medium peeling).

All of them work to renew and exfoliate, however, each acid has its own characteristics and bonus effects. Peeling is usually prescribed in courses and solves the following problems:
  • acne;

  • increased greasiness of the skin;

  • pigmentation;

  • dullness;

  • uneven terrain;

  • wrinkles;

  • loss of elasticity;

  • dryness.

Mechanical

Mechanical peels include microdermabrasion, which is carried out using abrasive particles of various origins. The classic of the genre is aluminum oxide, which provides a fairly powerful effect, but this technique has now been replaced by acids. Today, dermabrasion is used only as part of a facial treatment, in a very mild form.

Laser

An alternative to medium acid peels. Deeply renews the skin by stitching it with thousands of laser needles. The procedure should be addressed with obvious age-related changes and skin defects. Requires a rehabilitation period.

Ultrasonic

Ultrasonic waves and a special spatula are the arsenal of a specialist who conducts a “deep” cleansing of the face, at the same time contributing to the renewal of the skin.

Seasonality: when is the best time to peel

According to the rules, any peelings are carried out in the autumn-winter period, when the sun is inactive. Having lost the top layer, the skin becomes extremely vulnerable to external influences, especially to ultraviolet radiation. After peeling procedures, the risk of hyperpigmentation increases, so the use of a cream with an SPF of at least 30 is mandatory.

Peels are usually done in autumn.

Most peels are winter and autumn procedures. But there are exceptions: soft acids for all-weather peels have appeared on the market, which can be used both in spring and summer. These include:

  • almond peeling for sensitive skin;

  • milk peeling (lactic acid is the most harmless);

  • enzyme peel.

Age: when is it time to peel

Peeling is obedient to all ages. It can be done in adolescence, when the skin suffers from youthful acne, and at 50, when there are age-related changes. In general, this is an effective procedure, the main thing is that it be carried out by a professional.

However, do not write off cosmetics with acids and abrasives for self-use. With their help, you can also achieve excellent results, but you need to understand that they will not get rid of serious aesthetic flaws. Yes, they are not designed for that.

How often can a face peel be done?

The cosmetologist prescribes the course of peeling and its frequency individually and according to indications. With supportive care and prevention, this is usually a course of 3-5 treatments once a year. As for home cosmetics, they can be used all year round, but with caution during the season of increased solar activity. And in any case, use a remedy with SPF.
