What you need to know if you live alone in an apartment

A separate apartment is great. You can have your own rules, your daily routine, you can even walk naked around the clock, even sing “Tu-lu-la” with all your throat, even have ice cream for breakfast. However, this is also some responsibility, which we often prefer to forget about. And here’s the catch: no one but us will remember these things.

Living with parents is, on the one hand, convenient. You will never die of hunger, there is always a clean plate, linen is washed magically. On the other hand, until you start living separately, you cannot consider yourself an adult. And here we have to do a bunch of things that parents usually took care of, and we might not even suspect that they were necessary. Wday.ru has selected eight of the most important of these things.

Pipe gloves

It is important to monitor whether the battery is leaking during hydraulic tests, from time to time to look under the sink in the kitchen where the communications pass, to monitor the pipes in the bathroom. If you do not do this, there is a possibility that neighbors from below will come with a check.

“I advise you to buy special gloves for an electrician. Firstly, they will never shock you in them, and secondly, you will not burn your hands, as they are thick and do not conduct electricity, – shares plumbing specialist Andrey Karpov. “For example, if you break through a pipe with hot water, wearing such gloves you can at least wrap it with a rag so that the water flows into the basin while you wait for a specialist.”

Gas stove: no leaks

You need to understand that no one will do anything for you: they will not inspect and double-check whether everything has been turned off. Particular attention is paid to the gas stove.

“When leaving the kitchen, immediately turn off all burners and close the gas tap on the pipe, – says gasman Vladimir Dolgov. – This is the only way to avoid gas leaks. After all, when gas begins to accumulate in the kitchen, and its concentration increases, it can lead to an explosion. Do not forget to ventilate the room, keep the window and kitchen ventilation open. “

Bathroom: not all at once

There are rules even in such a simple matter as a shower. Here’s the most important thing: when you go to wash, do not turn on the washing machine in parallel! Otherwise, without exaggeration, you risk your life: you can be electrocuted.

Plastic windows: looking inside

“In order for plastic windows to last as long as possible, they need seasonal care, – tells the master Larisa Valova. “They need to be lubricated 2-3 times a year so that the mechanisms do not wear out, the seals (rubber bands that protect against drafts) remain elastic, there is no squeak or difficulty in closing.”

Yes, you have to do the dirty work. First, we thoroughly clean all the fittings from dust and dirt, wipe it clean with a dry cloth. And then we lubricate with oil: machine, silicone or special means. Just a few drops are enough.

Keys: have a stock

Losing keys or forgetting at work is very unpleasant. And if you went out to the site to see off your friends, and the door slammed shut, it’s also stupid. To call specialists for emergency opening of doors, you will have to provide documents for the ownership of the apartment and pay a tidy sum. Therefore, it is best to make several duplicate keys. Use one all the time, put the other in a secret pocket in the bag that you carry with you. Give the third one to relatives, good friends or even neighbors in whom you are especially confident – just in case.

Interior door: lock with a secret

Any lock can jam. Let a stone be thrown at us by someone who has never got stuck in the toilet of a shopping center or cafe because of a cheap lock! No advice from the Internet will help here: either the door will have to be opened, or the lock will have to be broken. Both are money, troubles and a spoiled mood. Therefore, it is better to put latches for the lock, so that the door does not slam shut. What for? After all, you are alone!

Contacts: multiplying connections

If you work from morning to evening or often go on business trips, and no one can look after the apartment, then give your neighbors your phone number and contacts of close friends. So they will be able to promptly warn about emergency situations.
