It is difficult for an extrovert to understand how an introvert sees the world. Their behavior often seems illogical or sluggish. But what do they really feel?
I can’t tell you how many times my introversion was mistaken for something else. For example, for coldness, rudeness, ignorance. Or unsociableness.
I can tell why. Introverts are not immediately distinguishable. Most friends are, you guessed it, extroverts. All of them are incredibly lively and active people.
When I’m around them, it’s hard for me to just sit and listen – I get infected with their energy and become like them. But at other times, when you see me, you will immediately understand that you are an introvert.
1. We are constantly watching
We are calm, it is true, but this does not mean that nothing is happening in our heads. Extroverts leave everything here – they think about something and then immediately talk about it. And we – we think, and then we don’t speak. At least for now.
As long as you see us sitting quietly, our thoughts may wander a thousand miles away. We manage to plan the work week in advance, smile at the memory of how we once pulled hot cupcakes from our grandmother’s pan, and note to ourselves that this person in front of us has been looking at us for a minute.
2. We have superhuman intuition
And this is both good and bad at the same time. Almost every introvert is able to instantly feel the change if something went wrong. As soon as we enter the room, we understand the general mood and disposition of forces. This is the good part. The bad part is that even if we are wrong, we continue to believe that we are right, because intuition rarely let us down.
Since we have decided to speak and say something, these are considered words and they have weight.
In any situation, an introvert sees what is hidden. Because observation fails us even less often than intuition.
3. We hate small talk about nothing.
It is very boring. I want to get to the point. I want to talk to you about the whole world, what inspires you, and how you got through the hard times in your life.
If I’m completely bored, ask me a question that makes sense. You will notice how the introvert starts up, and even the tips of his ears will show that he is listening carefully. Honestly, in a minute, all the introverts present will gather around you.
4. We analyze and think about everything
And I mean really everything. It is impossible for something to happen just like that, by itself, and make no sense. We need to analyze it in 500 different ways, because the brain is constantly working and intuition tells us that there must be something else in this world besides what we see.
Therefore, if you see a person with a fixed gaze, who is staring into space, it is likely that this is an introvert who is considering something extremely insignificant.
5. We are like Superman, but we get excited easily.
The simplest definition of an introvert is someone who recharges their batteries when they are alone. This means that every party and every gathering of people that we find ourselves at, little by little pinch off a piece of our social endurance and patience, until there comes a moment when there is nothing left of them and we want to be left alone.
We are easily excited and tired because we react to everything that surrounds us.
This is reminiscent of the moment when little Superman was inside a man of steel and couldn’t focus on anything because his mind took in everything at once. Yes, we introverts are like Supermen. Don’t forget about it.
6. We can’t explain everything as well as we would like.
I can’t tell you how many times I felt like I couldn’t explain things the way I see them. On paper, I can create a whole storm, but at the moment I will not find words to support my point. Soon the dust will settle, and it will turn out that I have something to say, but in most cases this happens when it’s too late to say anything.
7. Often we just don’t have time to emerge from our thoughts.
Imagine a kitchen full of chefs who are busy and still have time to give orders to each other. Pretty much the same as me. I move between layers and layers of different thoughts, and when you ask me a question, I need to emerge from there and comprehend it as well. Very soon I will give you a detailed and reasoned answer, although by this time I may well hear the question: “Why did you suddenly start talking about this?”
8. We get hurt easily
Of course, this does not mean that I am always sad, like a dwarf from a fairy tale about Snow White. This means that if someone decides to be friendly and turn their critical gaze in my direction, I will react to this about 5 times stronger than you would do it yourself.
9. If we let you in, we will do everything for you
I have a few friends, we don’t need much time to get together and chat. I love them so much, all of them, and like any true introvert, I don’t have the patience to keep in touch with 4000 Facebook friends.
10. When we say something, we mean it
We’re not going to make a promise if we’re not sure we can keep it. Since we have decided to speak and say something, these are considered words and they carry weight. In this, an introvert can be relied upon.
11. We are good alone
In large groups of friends, an introvert will always let one of you shine, while he himself will recede into the background. But in a one-on-one conversation, he will show himself in full splendor and strength. And, perhaps, you will receive even more attention and support from him.
