Why do bed linen need to be washed? What if you don’t do this?
Although it is not a popular activity, regular linen change should be a necessity. There is a real chain reaction – when you get into bed, you bring dirt and dust with you. If, in addition, he sometimes allows himself a snack or breakfast in bed, there are also leftovers of food. But it doesn’t stop there. Care creams contain oils and ingredients that do not evaporate in a magical way, but soak into the pillow. This makes it literally a used make-up removal wipe on which you lay your face on for a few hours every day.
In addition, even a clean person without a gram of foreign substances on the body also stains the bed. Every night, it loses about 15 million skin cells that fall on the sheets or pillows. In addition, he also leaves secretions of his body in the bedding – even sweat. And of this, we spend an average of 98 liters per year.
Everything that gets into bed so easily is actually a delicacy for the mites that live in it. The longer we do not change the sheets, the more welcoming the environment. And that means more procreation, more excrement and, quite simply, even more mites that make your bed a really nice place to stay.
Unfortunately, it does not end with mites (which are especially dangerous for allergy sufferers). Mushrooms begin to develop in the unwashed pillow. The study found that the average pillow has between 4 and 17 species. There are also millions of spores. It’s not hard to guess what happens when we forget to change the pillowcase for several months …

This is still not the end of the bedding macabre. Another enemy of our health and peaceful sleep in dirty bedding is bacteria. And, if we do not remember to wash regularly, there may be up to 39 times more than in a dog’s bowl and even several thousand times more than on a toilet seat.
How often do you change bedding? Definitely more than you think
You already know for sure that regular linen change should be on your list of priorities. Sleeping among dust mites, fungi, and bacteria is certainly not something you want to do. The bad news is that to guard against all this inner life of your bedding, you need to take care of it regularly and often. Experts recommend washing once a week.
This rule applies especially to people who have allergies or asthma. But not only. Changing bed linen frequently is also especially recommended in the case of infections and excessive sweating. People who eat in bed, sleep naked or go to bed without showering, should also remember about regular washing.
Bed linen should be washed in the hottest water possible. Therefore, you should set the highest possible temperature, which the material allows (it is best to check it on the label). In addition, it is also recommended to iron washed bedding, which will additionally disinfect the material.
