What will smart homes look like in ten years?

The refrigerator orders beer on its own, and the washed clothes are hung on the dryer – isn’t this what each of us dreams of? But will our wishes come true in a decade?

Experts from the Swedish research firm Berg Insight say that in ten years we will be completely “immersed” in the Internet of Things (IoT). Thanks to advances in artificial intelligence, “smart” devices will be able not only to fulfill the requests of the owners, but also to anticipate their desires. TIME magazine writes about it.

According to the research company IoT Analytics, today at least 7 billion devices are connected to the IoT, and this figure will grow. Artificial intelligence will serve as the “brain” of an entire apartment building, study its residents and control the operation of their gadgets. For example, IoT company Crestron is working on software that tracks a person’s habits: what music they want to listen to in the morning or what lights they want to turn on at certain times of the day. And Nvidia is developing a smart robot that can perform tasks from chopping vegetables to helping clean up.

Cameras and sensors built into refrigerators will offer healthy alternatives to sweets if hosts crave candy and soda too often. Similar technologies in first aid kits will control whether a person has taken the medicine. Sensors will even appear in toilets to check human waste for dangerous bacteria. For example, the plumbing company Toto has been trying to introduce urine-sampling toilets.
