It is estimated that every day around the world we drink around 3 billion cups of coffee. Undoubtedly, small black, cappuccino or latte are among the most popular drinks. But how does a weakness for coffee, especially when we drink a lot of it, affect our health?
How does excessive coffee drinking affect your health? Australian scientists warn
Scientists from the University of South Australia decided to investigate how weakness in coffee affects our health. The results of their extensive database analysis were published in mid-2020.
To understand the health consequences of drinking coffee, scientists analyzed information on over 300 people registered in the UK Biobank (this project explores the links between genetics and the environment and disease development). As it turned out?
– We can reassure everyone that, according to the study, moderate coffee drinking is usually safe – says the author of the study, Prof. Elina Hyppönen. However, excessive use of coffee is no longer so safe. The analyzes showed that this habit promotes osteoarthritis, arthropathy and obesity.
As emphasized by prof. Hyppönen, the results of her team’s analysis provide important information for people with a history of osteoarthritis or arthritis, and for those who are worried that they will develop these diseases.
- Is loose coffee healthier than instant coffee?
– The body usually sends out strong signals about coffee consumption, so it is crucial to listen to them when drinking it. While our results are generally reassuring about typical coffee consumption, their message is also that you should always be mindful of moderation. This is the best way to enjoy coffee and good health, the researcher advises.
A previous Australian study found that six cups of coffee a day are the upper limit for safe consumption.
