What wash

Is your hair lacking in hydration? Do you feel they are attacked by the products you use on a daily basis and aspire to offer them a real detox cure? Look no further, this article has everything you need to know. Indeed, we are talking about the co wash, a treatment for the hair like no other that promises shine and hydration at will … So what is the co wash? Who can use it? How to proceed and what are the advantages? All the answers to your questions are here.

What is the co wash?

Etymologically, the word “co wash” was born from the contraction of the terms “conditioner” (conditioner) and “wash”. You will understand, this technique consists of washing your hair only using a conditioner, without going through the shampoo box. So, of course, this may seem surprising given that the conditioner is used more for its moisturizing benefits than for its cleansing properties, however: it would be a mistake to underestimate it. Indeed, beyond its creamy texture and the moisturizing agents that characterize it, the conditioner has more than one trick in its bag.

What are the properties of co wash for the hair?

You may not know it, but some shampoos have a formulation containing ingredients that can be very aggressive for the hair over time … This is the case of sulfate, a cleanser with a particularly offensive detergent action. Thanks to him, the hair is clean, of course, but at what cost?

The co-wash method makes it possible to put an end to this kind of problematic galenic. Indeed, in general much softer, the composition of conditioners does not only respect the hair fiber, it also provides real hair care.

No worries: the latter is more than enough to wash your hair most of the time (if you are an avid consumer of oil baths, on the other hand, you may encounter more difficulties). Using the co-wash technique is to ensure hydration and shine to your hair, allow your colorings to last longer thanks to the scales that remain closed, ensure easier disentangling of the hair, as well as the disappearance of frizz … And this is not all: the co wash also promises to space the shampoos. What could be better ?

Co wash: who is this washing technique for?

If, by nature, the co wash is particularly aimed at frizzy (naturally more fragile), dry or dehydrated hair, all types of hair can actually succumb to this technique. And yes, as surprising as it sounds: co wash and greasy hair are not necessarily incompatible and this is explained very simply.

Indeed, it happens that the hair is greasy in response to the aggressions which it undergoes on a daily basis, and the shampoos (those containing sulphates especially) can precisely be part of these aggressions. The occasional adoption of co-wash can therefore, in the event of a scalp that grows too quickly, help regulate sebum. In short: the co wash can be suitable for all.

Co wash: instructions for use

To carry out the co wash, just proceed as you usually do when using your classic shampoo:

  • wet your hair;
  • wring them out lightly;
  • apply the right amount of product (neither too much nor too little);
  • massage your scalp and your lengths delicately so as to distribute the material well (do not expect the conditioner to foam as much as a shampoo, this will not prevent it from being effective);
  • leave on then rinse. That’s it !

Be aware that in terms of sensoriality, this technique may not be suitable for all. In particular, the lack of suds and the sensation of clean, crunchy hair can be disturbing.

Good to know: make sure that the conditioner used does not contain silicone, an ingredient that would make the product counterproductive. Indeed, if it makes the hair very soft when washing, in the long run, the silicone has no other effects than stifling the hair fiber and preventing the care given to penetrate it. So, as with sulfates, it is best to remove silicones from our beauty routine.

Co wash: what is the right frequency of use?

Ideal for taking care of the hair, the co wash can in some cases prove to be too much and end up weighing down the hair. One thing is certain: this is not a washing technique that you resort to daily, as the hair and scalp need to breathe as much as possible.

What we recommend then is to alternate co wash and classic shampoo (now opting for a formulation that is gentler on your hair). This will allow you to enjoy all the benefits of the co wash while ensuring a regular deep wash to remove stubborn particles that accumulate in the hair.
