😉 Greetings to regular readers and visitors of the site! If you have never been to Georgia and do not know what to visit in Tbilisi, then this information and video will certainly come in handy!
Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia, one of the oldest in the world. This city, located on the Kura River, is more than 1500 years old. Noisy, cozy, with cobblestone roads and the famous sulfur baths.
Translated from Georgian “Tbilisi” means “warm spring”. This is due to the fact that the water in the sulfur baths comes from natural thermal springs. In the areas where the baths are located, there is a characteristic smell of hydrogen sulfide.
Only the main streets, with bright signs, resemble a modern metropolis. And in the courtyards there is another, separate life, with endless, hung clothes, clotheslines, Georgian men playing backgammon and women discussing something loudly.
Tbilisi Top Attractions
Of course, a city with such an ancient history has a huge number of attractions. Here is some of them:
- old churches: the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the Metekhi Temple of the Mother of God;
- cathedrals: Zion, Tsminda Sameba, St. George;
- Betania Monastery (16 km from Tbilisi);
- Narikala fortress;
- Atsruni caravanserai;
- Botanical Garden;
- the old town, which has fully preserved its historical appearance.
And this is not the whole list of historical monuments of Tbilisi. There is where to go and what to see. And more modern sights can be visited on Rustaveli Avenue.
Also, one should not forget that the history of Georgia is closely connected with Russia. There are places that will be of interest to the Russian traveler.
For example, high above Tbilisi, in the monastery of St. David, the ashes of two lovers rest. Russian diplomat and writer Alexander Sergeevich Griboyedov and his wife, Georgian princess Nino Chavchavadze.
After visiting historical sites, the road will definitely lead to the local market. The prices are reasonable and for a small amount you can buy so many vegetables and fruits that you can’t take everything away. But they don’t give back, it’s just accepted.
Cafes, restaurants, hotels
Cafes and restaurants offer delicious national dishes, for example, khachapuri, khinkali, chakhokhbili, tobacco chicken, tkemali sauce, various cheeses, and for sweets, of course, churchkhela. The portions are large, and the prices are much cheaper than Russian ones. And what a Georgian lunch without wine! The most famous are red wines, but whites are no worse.
There are many hotels, inns, hostels in Tbilisi. And the prices are pleasantly surprising.
The hospitality of the Georgian nation is legendary. Indeed, people in Tbilisi are very sociable, talkative and friendly. From the very birth, they learned the concept of “a guest is from God”. Therefore, the next trip to this amazing city will already be a visit to friends.
Tbilisi can be attractive with hot subtropical summers, warm winters, and rainy springs and autumn, because it is always glad to see guests.
