Right now, the labor market in Russia is redistributing and changing: someone is left without a job, someone is forced to change their field of activity, someone is taking advantage of a crisis moment to realize an old dream. How to present yourself in an interview?
According to Svetlana Kolosova, psychologist at Inbalansy, it is important to prepare a brief self-presentation before an interview, which will be an answer to a typical request: “Tell me a little about yourself.”
What does it take to present yourself well in an interview?
Carefully study the job description, shifting it to your professional experience.
Emphasize in your future speech the requirements of the company indicated in the job description.
Preliminary study the company’s website, its values.
Think about your own motivation.
“Self-presentation should not take much time — ideally no more than 10 minutes,” the expert is convinced. You should start with an introduction: briefly talk about your work experience in general, indicate what tasks you performed and what projects you implemented.
“Describe your main achievements and the last place of work — what position you held, how many people were in your subordination and what tasks were considered key. After that, you can identify your strengths and competencies that allow you to effectively cope with work tasks. It’s good if they resonate with the requirements that are indicated in the job description,” comments Svetlana Kolosova.
The psychologist advises to complete the self-presentation by showing your interest and motivation in the framework of the chosen vacancy
What drew you to the job description? What skills will be useful to the company in this position? “I am interested in developing professionally in the field of…”, “I would be interested in developing in the direction of…because…”, “My next step in my career, I am considering a position…” — such phrases are convenient templates.
“It is important to remember that when choosing from several candidates with the same qualifications, the ability to make a favorable impression during the interview will play a decisive role,” says Svetlana Kolosova.
The expectations of the candidate and the employer differ: if stability, a social package, a decent salary and professional development are important for a candidate, then interest, professionalism, maturity and balance are important for the employer.
“That’s why you should come to the interview prepared and informed, give detailed answers and speak to the point. There will be no second chance to make a great first impression, ”concludes the psychologist.
