What to do when the situation seems hopeless

Each of us has experienced the feeling of being at a dead end. This happens in different areas of life: at work, in relationships, in finances. What if there is no way to “drop everything and fly away”, go to the SPA or go shopping with your girlfriends? What to do if all efforts seem useless?

Here are a few options to help you deal with the situation:

Cheer up

There is always a way out. It is this belief that helps me in most cases to cope with “bad” situations. Sometimes you just need a little more patience and time. An optimistic attitude will help you gather strength and start looking for a solution. Positive thinking helps you look in the direction of success, while whining and discouragement drag you back to the broken trough.

The ability to find the positives in the most losing situation expands the boundaries of thinking, which will allow you to see the situation in a new way, from a different point of view. And of course, don’t forget to work with negative attitudes. Try to write them down on a piece of paper and write a positive, inspiring phrase opposite each of them. In this way, you transform your own fears and insecurities into a resource and an incentive to act.

Have a Brainstorm

Describe the problem and the ways in which you have already tried to solve it. I got acquainted with this practice at one of the psychological trainings about 20 years ago, and it has never let me down. The main thing is not to be lazy. Sometimes it seems to us that we have certainly done everything, everything, and when we begin to write down and remember what exactly we have done, it turns out that not so much.

After that, the most interesting and creative task begins: write down all possible and seemingly impossible solutions. Try not to think, just write whatever comes to mind on the subject. Sometimes a “stream of consciousness” opens up and very interesting insights happen.

An important part of this step is not to judge yourself and your ideas. And never beat yourself up. For some it takes an hour, for others a whole day. We are all very different, and each has its own rhythm and temperament. Just draw conclusions, reflect and move on.

Take a time out

Stop thinking about this “complexity”. Try to distract yourself by all available means, switch your attention. I really like to turn on music and dance at such moments, splashing out all the accumulated feelings and emotions. Someone helps watching a movie or walking in the park, along the promenade or just along the busy city streets, for someone – sports, needlework or cooking buns.

Everyone has heard the phrase: “It’s easier to think with a fresh mind.” The fact is that a favorite pastime or hobby not only gives us the opportunity to relax mentally and physically, but also fills us with energy and a sense of satisfaction. Often already during the walk comes an insight or a possible solution.

Gather Information

Information is not just power, but also an opportunity to see a cool idea, meet interesting people, learn something useful and, most importantly, expand your horizons. After school and two institutes, the word “study” caused unpleasant spasms for me. But one day, already at a fairly mature age, I decided to take a chance and take courses on a topic that interested me, and I never regretted it. It turned out that when we ourselves choose what and from whom to learn, this is a much more exciting process.

Don’t miss this opportunity. Read books, articles, listen to webinars or go to a lecture on a topic that interests you. Go beyond the familiar world, look for a fresh look. After all, as Omar Khayyam said: “To find a new path, you need to leave the old path.”

I believe you will succeed!
