Dr. Rzymski: Let’s not be afraid of COVID-19 vaccines, there are few contraindications

– There are really very few contraindications to vaccination. In Poland alone, vaccines against COVID-19 have been received by millions of people who are healthy – emphasizes Dr. Piotr Rzymski, an expert in the field of medical biology and research at the Medical University of Karol Marcinkowski in Poznań.

The scientist notes that the fears of many people were fully understood when vaccines had just started to be used in our country. – That is why we explained in various ways how these vaccines were developed, how they work, how they were tested. Such wonderful initiatives as “Science against Pandemic”, initiated by prof. Andrzej Fala, but also others in which clinicians and scientists worked to spread knowledge. Thanks to this, today there is a lot of reliable information on vaccines against COVID-19. And among us, more and more vaccinated people – pointed out the expert.

The scientist emphasizes that, taking into account the data from hospitals, it is clear that currently the vast majority of hospitalized people are only unvaccinated people. – In Great Britain, the increase in delta infections is observed mainly in regions where the vaccination rate is low. And in Poland, what is terrifying, the degree of vaccination of senior groups is insufficient – he reminds.

When asked what can be done when, for example, we have a stubborn grandmother or grandfather in the family who do not want to undergo vaccination for anything, Dr. Piotr Rzymski replies that it is worth using the so-called cocoon method.

– Let us vaccinate all the others from close circle that we can. And now we can also do younger ones, because the Pfizer vaccine has been authorized for people from the age of 12 – noted the expert.

Let us recall that over 26,4 million vaccinations have been performed in Poland so far. The first dose was received by 16,1 million and the second by 10,3 million. Over 11 million Poles are fully vaccinated.
