The washing program started as usual, but suddenly the washing machine freezes. First of all, it needs to be visually inspected, and only then proceed to disassembly. We will consider the sequence of work in this article.
Reasons for freezing the washing machine
There are many reasons why SMA hangs. You need to inspect the washer, try to find and fix the problem.
If she stopped with a full tank of water and laundry, then the water must be drained and the laundry hung up.
- At the bottom of the front panel of the CMA is a drain filter.
- Press the hatch latches with a screwdriver and open the cover.
- Substituting the container, scroll and pull out the filter, then drain the water.
Pay attention at what stage the stop occurred when the washing machine hung.
If the system fails, the CMA may hang at any stage of the program. Try unplugging the machine for 10-15 minutes. If the cause is a failure, then after switching on the washing program will resume again.
- Why did the washing machine freeze immediately after turning on and installing the program? It’s about overload. Modern machines are equipped with sensors that monitor the weight of the laundry. Therefore, if the load exceeds the norm, the wash will not start.
- Did the program stop on rinsing? You need to check if the mode is selected correctly. For delicate, hand wash and wool wash, the spin cycle can be turned off. Also, some programs exclude automatic draining of water. So the car stops.
- SMA hangs on spin. Maybe it’s because of the imbalance. If the machine itself could not restore the balance before spinning, it stops. Or maybe the control function is not in your model at all. Then you need to open the hatch and distribute the laundry manually.
If there are no problems with the laundry and the regimen, it is probably a breakdown.
Usually, the self-diagnosis system will display an error code on the display. Then it remains for you to find out the meaning of the code in order to determine the cause of the breakdown.

How to fix a breakdown
What needs to be done to return the machine to working capacity? Not all parts can be repaired by yourself. But it is in your power to inspect them, clean them from blockage or replace them.
Replace heating element
If the hatch remains cold in the washing mode at a high temperature, the heating element does not heat the water. You may feel that the laundry smells musty and does not wash well. These are also indirect signs of a heater malfunction.
In Bosch, LG, Samsung models, the electric heater is located in front. In washing machines “Indesit”, “Ariston” you need to remove the back cover. Progress:
- Remove the top panel of the washer.
- Pull the tray dispenser out of the body by pressing the latch in the center.
- Unscrew the screws around the perimeter of the control panel, release its latches.
- Remove the plinth panel.
- Open the hatch door, bend the cuff and remove the clamp.
- Unscrew the two bolts of the lock on the case.
- Now unscrew all the screws around the perimeter of the front panel and remove it from the case.
- Under the tank you will see the exits of the heating element.
- Disconnect wiring from heater.
- Loosen the center nut and push the bolt inward.
After pulling the heater out of the case, check it. Use a multimeter to measure resistance. If the part shows infinite resistance, then a replacement is needed.
Check hatch lock
Due to the broken UBL, the hatch door is not blocked, so water intake will not start. In the case of replacing the heating element, we described how to disconnect the lock fasteners from the body. To remove the device, disconnect its wiring. The blocking device is also checked with a multimeter.
Clear blockage in drain system
Depending on the model of your washing machine, the pump may be in front or behind the body. After removing the desired panel, inspect the drain hose and pipe. Feel them with your hand. If there is a blockage inside, clean it under running water.
To remove the tube:
- Remove the bolt securing the clamp.
- Open the clamp with pliers.
- Disconnect the hose from the tank and pump.
To test the pump:
- Disconnect pump wiring.
- Unscrew the fixing screws and remove the pump from the case.
- For inspection, release the latches that secure the pump to the volute.
Inspect engine
Motor replacement is required in case of winding problems. You can try to eliminate the wear of the electric brushes or lamellas yourself. How to repair the SMA engine, we wrote in previous articles.
Consider how to remove the motor for inspection:
- Loosen the screws on the back panel and remove it from the case.
- To remove the engine, disconnect the wiring leading to it.
- Remove the bolts (three to four pieces).
- Take out the motor.
Now you can start your inspection. For inspection, remove the brushes from the motor housing. If the rods are worn out, the brushes need to be replaced.
The winding is checked with a multimeter for a short circuit or open circuit.
Check electronic board
Often, electronics fail due to sudden voltage drops, high humidity. During strong vibration of the machine, the contacts of the board may come off. To check it, remove the control panel as described above. Release the latches and release the board.
