What to do if the linen does not dry in the apartment – 10 life hacks

The matter seems to be simple, but in practice it turns out that everything is not so simple.

Does not dry, shrinks, smells unpleasant, burns out in the sun, stretches and loses its shape – all kinds of troubles do not happen to the linen. But there are tricks that will help to avoid these very troubles.

1. Tumble dry? Hang laundry so that small items are in the center and heavy and bulky items are on the sides of the dryer. This will create even air circulation and your laundry will dry faster.

2. If you have a lot of humidity in your home, if you wash a lot, or if a bulky dryer gets in the way of your feet, there is a way to speed up the drying process.

“In this case, you can purchase an electric dryer, for example, a floor dryer. Laundry on it will dry about five times faster than on a regular one. Such a dryer will cope with even the most difficult things (thick fabric, complex cut) in 1,5-2 hours, ”says Natalia Terekhova, head of the Electrical Goods Department at Leroy Merlin.

3. It is better to dry colored items turned inside out so that the fabric does not fade under the sun. But for wool, knitwear and other complex fabrics, this method is not suitable at all: so that the fabric does not deform, it needs a horizontal layout, which is difficult to do on the balcony.

4. Drying at home on a hanging system? Install it in a well-ventilated, odor-free area. That is, not in the bathroom or in the kitchen. In the first case, the laundry will create additional moisture in an already damp room, which is fraught with very long drying and the appearance of mold on the walls. And in the kitchen, linen dries quickly, but retains all the smells of food and absorbs small particles of fat from frying.

5. Knitwear, wool and other heavy fabrics retain water, so it is difficult to squeeze them out, and spinning “with passion” will only stretch the thing. To dry them without letting the accumulated water pull out the edges, lay them horizontally. Place a thick cloth under such a thing – it will quickly absorb excess water and “fix” the product on itself, preventing it from shrinking in size when it dries.

6. Dry on the balcony? Linen blowing in the wind is, of course, a classic. But even if the clotheslines are stretched away from dusty roads, it is worth wiping them with dust before hanging them, otherwise they will have to be washed again. In cold weather, add a little salt to the rinse water to prevent the laundry from freezing to the rope.

7. The laundry will smell like the aroma declared on the packaging of the powder or rinse aid only if you hung it up within half an hour after washing. Well, or within an hour – if you open the car door immediately after the end of the process. If you fail to meet these deadlines, before drying, run the machine again on the rinse mode with the addition of rinse aid, otherwise the laundry will rot and smell unpleasant.

8. To avoid deformation during drying, give the garment its perfect shape. Fasten the buttons on the shirt and the zipper on the sweater, straighten the collar on the sweater, stuff the sleeves of the outerwear with paper. The more you take care of the shape of the item before leaving it on the dryer, the better it will stay.

9. Don’t like ironing T-shirts? Dry them on hangers, hanging them between the ribs of the sides of the dryer – usually this height is sufficient so that the clothes do not touch the floor. But shirts and blouses will still have to be ironed, so you can dry them by hanging them on the same side section. This arrangement will save a lot of space and will allow you to dry more laundry.

10. To keep the skirt from losing its shape, dry it with the hem up. To do this, use ordinary wooden clothespins – they will securely fix the fabric and will not leave marks on it. But if you just bought new clothespins, it is better to boil them for a couple of minutes: the tree can release resin, which will not be easy to remove later.
