What to do if the kitten does not eat or drink anything

If the kitten doesn’t eat anything, show it to the vet. But first, find out the main causes of loss of appetite.

Incorrectly selected food is the reason why the kitten does not eat.

Why doesn’t the kitten eat or drink?

The kitten may lose its appetite when moving to a new home. The adaptation period lasts one to two days. Another reason lies in its age, when the kitten is too small and does not know how to eat on its own.

It is important for a pet that the house is clean and tidy. If he has a dirty bowl or a pile of garbage is scattered around it, then the kitten will not touch the food. He may also be put off by the strong smell of food or the detergent you used to wash his bowl.

Refusal to eat indicates the presence of parasites and infections in the body. Most often these are helminths, or worms. It is difficult for a fragile body to fight them. Parasites multiply very quickly and weaken the immune system.

Poisoning, overeating, and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract are also attributed to the reasons for loss of appetite. Additional symptoms are lethargy, vomiting, drowsiness, weight loss, mucus from the eyes, and increased heart rate.

What to do if the kitten does not want to eat or drink

When moving to another home, protect your pet from noise, strangers, and other sources of stress. Place a bowl of food and water next to it.

Spread milk on the kitten’s mouth, or try finger feeding. Put some milk or sour cream on your finger and bring it to its nose. If the kitten licks everything, gradually bring him closer to the bowl so that he tries to feast on milk on his own.

Most importantly, do not force feed the kitten. Allowed only as a last resort.

In vain attempts, feed your pet from a pipette or a special bottle. Instead of cow’s milk, buy cat milk replacer from your veterinarian. It’s not that greasy.

If the kitten does not eat or drink:

  1. Measure the temperature. An increased level means the presence of an infection, and a decreased level means weakness. A healthy kitten has a temperature of 38 degrees.
  2. Feel your belly. If the kitten begins to meow and squeak, it may have gastrointestinal problems.
  3. Feel your nose. A dry nose indicates a possible rise in temperature.
  4. Take him to the veterinary clinic.

Do not give laxatives or other medications to your pet without a doctor’s prescription. Do not neglect treatment and full examination.

Don’t delay your vet visit. Indeed, due to refusal to eat, a kitten can develop various diseases. Also go to the veterinarian, even if your pet starts eating again.
