Despite the fact that Bomann washing machines have proven to be innovative and advanced, these advances in electronics have not been reflected in the best way in the reliability of washing machines.
Repair of Bomann washing machines is required quite often, and we will consider the most common malfunctions and their independent repair.
Typical breakdowns of CM Bomann
- The water does not drain from the tank. Slow draining of water, its complete absence and program failure can be caused by a number of reasons:
- Clogged connecting pipe.
- A breakdown of the drain pump or a stuck litter in the pump.
- Clogged water drain hose.
- Controller failure.
- In some cases, it may not be the machine that is broken – the sewer or siphon may be clogged.
- The laundry does not spin. Often, spinning is not possible due to the fact that water that has not drained stagnates in the drum – this means that the pump has broken or there is a blockage in the drain system. If there is no spin in Bomann washing machines, then this may also indicate a failure of the tachometer sensor (it is responsible for the number of revolutions of the tank during washing).
- Water is not poured into the drum. In some cases, it is worth simply checking the water supply from the water supply – perhaps the pressure is too low or there is no water at all. But more often UBL (hatch blocking device) is to blame for this. If the UBL is faulty, then emergency leakage protection is activated, and no water enters the drum.
- The water stays cold in any washing mode. The most likely cause is a breakdown of the thermoelectric heater. TEN is a weak point of any washing machines, including the Bomann brand.
Less common breakdowns of Bomann washing machines
Less common, but also quite likely failures include the following malfunctions:
- The machine “jumps” when spinning. The reason may be a loose counterweight – this is a special weighted block, the task of which is to dampen the vibrations of the SM. Simply put, we are talking about a shock absorber. You need to tighten the mount or buy a new part.
- The car is leaking. Most likely, the rubber cuff – the hatch seal is to blame for this. There may also be a leak in other places – if the hoses and pipes are damaged (both in the intake system and in the water drain system).
- The drum does not spin. If it’s not garbage, a button, a coin, or something else that might have fallen out of the pockets of your clothes, then most likely the breakdown is caused by a malfunction in the electronic controller. It needs to be reprogrammed (flashed) or replaced with a new one.
All of the listed breakdowns are typical for almost the entire SMA Bomann model range. But the owners of such models most often turn to workshops: WA 9112, WA 5610, WA 9110, WA 9114, WA 9310, etc.
Fault codes for Bomann washing machines
Almost all breakdowns that occur in the system are notified to the user by codes that appear on the screen. For Bomann washers, the following error codes are typical: E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6 and E7. What they mean, you will learn from the table:

Self-repair of minor breakdowns Bomann
Do-it-yourself Bomann washing machine repair is quite possible if we talk about mild to moderate breakdowns. Complex breakdowns, such as repair or replacement of an electronic module (controller), we do not recommend manual elimination. By negligence, damaging the most expensive part in the SM, you risk significantly increasing the cost of repairs.
Therefore, if you decide to carry out repairs yourself, take only feasible work.
The water does not drain – we clean the drain pump and filter in the Bomann machine
If the E3 fault code told you that the water from the machine does not drain, you need to clean the drain filter and the drain pump (pump). A sensor or control board may also be involved in a breakdown, but it is better to entrust their repair to the master.
To clean it yourself, proceed as follows:
- Having found the hatch behind which the drain filter is hidden, turn off the power and first drain the water by substituting a container or laying a rag.
Carefully! Drained water may be hot!
- Rotate the filter and remove it from the hole.
- Remove the filter, clean it of blockage and send it under running water.
- Replace the filter, screw it on well and close the manhole cover tightly.
Important! It is strictly forbidden to use a washing machine without a filter.
The drain pump is cleaned in the same way. The only thing you need to do additionally is to check the pump winding for resistance, armed with a tester. It is possible that the pump is already defective and needs to be replaced. If the impeller is broken in it, it is also unusable, and a new part will have to be installed.
