Do not overheat, avoid sunburn – the most obvious advice you can imagine. After all, you can get a heat stroke and “fry” without noticing it even in our northern summer, “a caricature of southern winters”. What to do if burned out in the sun? How to reduce, alleviate suffering? How to apply sunburned skin?
Signs of sunburn
XNUMXst degree burn
Shallow – with it only the surface layer of the skin suffers. The burned area turns red, swells a little and, perhaps, that’s all. How long does a sunburn last? Depends on the characteristics of your skin, but on average – 3-4 days.
Second degree burn
If, in addition to swelling and redness, blisters filled with a clear liquid form, not only the epidermis is affected, but also the deeper layers of the skin. In place of the blisters, crusts gradually form, which will eventually peel off, and under them there will be young healthy skin.
Burns III and IV degree
III and even more so IV degree is treated only in the hospital. Already with a third-degree burn, all layers of the skin are affected, blisters appear with yellow or bloody contents. With a IV degree burn, not only the skin, but also the underlying tissues suffer.
What should you do if you get burned in the sun? Determine the area of damage.
Use the palm rule. Our palm is about 1% of the body area. This means that a burn area equal to 10 or 15 palms is 10-15% of the body.
What to do if burned out in the sun
First aid for sunburn
At first degree burns (if there are no blisters in the burnt area) the skin needs to be cooled – at home, a cold gauze compress or ice from the freezer will do. You can lubricate such sunburns with some kind of healing and regenerating agent (for example, with panthenol or aloe leaf juice).
For second degree burnswhen blisters appear, the affected area is also cooled. And urgently to the doctor! Even if “only” the back burned out in the sun, and not the face. Do not waste time typing in the search engine the question “what to anoint if burned out in the sun.” All necessary recommendations will be given by the doctor. In no case do not pierce the blisters and do not lubricate the burn with vegetable oil, sour cream, yogurt or soapy water. Do not treat it with brilliant green or potassium permanganate – there will be no benefit, only harm. If the pain is severe, take pain medication and try to get to the doctor as soon as possible.
If the burn is shallow, I or II degree, but 30-40% of the skin is affected, call an ambulance. Such extensive burns can provoke shock due to dysfunction of the hormonal and cardiovascular systems – medical attention is needed in a hospital. Extensive burns can not be cooled with ice or cold water, this is fraught with vasospasm. You need to call an ambulance or see a doctor.
They do exactly the same with burns III and IV degreesand. We hope you never have such an experience in your life. In any case, it’s almost impossible to “roast” in the sun like that.
In order not to get burned, it is very important to use sunscreen correctly (and constantly). How to do this, our test will tell you.

Use cosmetics with SPF – in central Russia, it has been relevant since mid-April. In the summer, even if you don’t intend to leave the city, use a stronger sunscreen.
