What things in the house betray poverty
You will be surprised, but these things not only do not add charm to the interior, but also give out the owner’s lack of taste and imagination. So if you want to make a positive impression on your guests, check to see if your home has any of this list.
An apartment can tell a lot more about you than you could imagine. Therefore, in order not to get into a mess and not be reputed, to put it mildly, as a poor person, just carefully examine the house and get rid of those things that make the whole interior cheaper and spoil.
Large mirrors and furniture with mirrored surfaces
Professionals in their field do not advise anyone to purchase large mirrors framed with original frames, arguing that the presence of such mirrors in strange and unusual places is vulgar, in every sense of the word. And the desire to look at yourself from all angles, too, you see, is not entirely normal.
The mirror on the ceiling in the bedroom looks especially awful. Or a wardrobe with mirrored doors in the same place. Mirrored furniture is generally terribly impractical, because it is difficult to imagine a person who will polish glass or a glossy surface from morning to night to get rid of prints, dust and other contaminants. There is nothing more depressing than a splattered polish that simply screams about the owner’s untidiness and the cheapness of the interior.
Well, who invented that satin bedding was a sign of luxury? In fact, all experts unanimously insist that really wealthy people will never cover their bed with such bad taste and will prefer high-quality specimens made of cotton, linen or a mixture of these two materials.
But really good silk is another matter. True, it is also very expensive.
Remember that plush toys are only acceptable if you have children. And even then only up to a certain age. The bed of a teenage girl, strewn with soft bears and other animals, is more likely not tenderness, but bewilderment. In addition, this is an additional dust collector, and dust, as you know, leads to various diseases.
Interior designers warn against such purchases (after all, most of these toys look cheap and trite) and advise you to get rid of these little things as soon as your child grows up. For example, you can collect all the fluffs and take them to the orphanage.
Canvas prints and reproductions of famous paintings
Fake, no matter how skillfully executed it may be, remains only a fake that does not paint your interior (including you) at all. As for the recently so popular canvas print, even the most stunning painting will become ugly cheap if it is not placed in a perfect frame. Designers remind that not a single person from high society or someone who understands styles and trends would hang this little thing on his wall, having found it on the counter of the ubiquitous furniture salon.
By the way, designers call posters and slogans within the framework of one of the ugliest trends in the interior. But this is such a popular technique!
An abundance of decorative pillows
Decorative pillows certainly have a right to exist, but in limited quantities. On sofas, such an accessory looks good, but the bed, on which the various-sized pillows rise, gives off mothballs and has long been no longer a trend.
Faded textiles and old-fashioned upholstery
The faded upholstery on the sofa, no matter how favorite it is for you, looks terrible and makes not only this piece of furniture cheaper, but the entire interior. The same goes for prints and patterns that went out of fashion a few years ago. This does not mean that you need to throw out your pet – it is enough to change the upholstery, order a stylish cover or a beautiful blanket. And budget, and will transform the room!
Chipped dishes
It’s just not good for anything – even from the point of view of good taste, even according to the rules of feng shui. Chipped dishes just need to be thrown away. It’s a shame, of course, but this is definitely not a thing that should be protected. Surrounding yourself with beautiful, harmonious things is one of the manifestations of self-care. Otherwise, it’s not far from the plastic plates in the kitchen.
Residential interior designer
If we talk about the basic things that most of all reduce the cost of the interior and immediately catch the eye, then, firstly, this is the old approach to renovation. For example, stretch ceilings, self-leveling floors for ceramic tiles (a coating from a polymer mixture is applied in bulk, leveling the surface. – Ed.), various 3D floors (built-in texture or pattern in the main canvas. – Ed.) with insects, dolphins, etc.
Secondly, non-natural materials: everyone’s favorite plastic panels, imitation wood or metal. Nowadays designers adhere to the “nature in the house” trend, when all its elements are used. Therefore, it is important that naturalness is present.
Thirdly, busting with bright colors can also noticeably worsen the interior. In my work, I adhere to the following ratio: 80% of the base colors (gray, beige, brown, black, white) and 20% are bright accent spots. They should be used, but only in dosage! And in items that can be replaced when they get bored. For example, textile items: curtains, pillows, etc.
Another very important thing that does not belong to such a concept as design at all is the same type of elements of the furniture set. Manufacturers specifically release such kits so that the consumer buys and does not think about anything. But in fact, it all looks, let’s say, in a philistine way. I note that now the eclectic style is gaining special popularity, where the task of the designer is to combine the incompatible. Therefore, feel free to experiment, but wisely!
Sometimes you go into an apartment and you just wonder how stylish everything seems, but something starts to annoy and spoil all the beauty. You look closely at the switch, and there is a dark spot. People, unfortunately, often forget to monitor the maintenance of their home. And in vain. After all, just these elements create a depressing atmosphere: shabby fittings, an abundance of furniture, royal luxury in a small-sized car, dusty trinkets. And of course, a chandelier! An incorrectly chosen “luminary” can bring in mournful tones and generally ruin the whole atmosphere. Don’t assume that just one chandelier can light up an entire room. To create coziness, you need at least two or three more sconces. Trust me, it will work right away!
