What they drink champagne with: how to do it, snacks according to etiquette
Champagne is a noble drink that is served at the festive table. To fully enjoy the taste, it must be properly combined with food and other alcohol. If you know what they are drinking champagne with, the feast will be pleasant, and in the morning you will not suffer from a headache.
What to serve sparkling wine with according to etiquette
Some products spoil the taste of champagne, while others, on the contrary, make it brighter.
To set off the bouquet of sparkling wine, it is served with:
- cheese;
- nuts;
- fruit;
- sandwiches with red and black caviar;
- seafood;
- light salads;
- white meat and boiled chicken.
Sweet dishes such as cakes and pastries go well with semi-sweet sparkling wines.
Sparkling wine should be drunk separately from other types of alcohol. But if this is not possible, then after champagne it is better to switch to stronger drinks. So, after a couple of glasses of champagne, you can switch to whiskey, vodka, rum, cognac. But after spirits, you should not drink sparkling wines. Otherwise, you cannot avoid feeling unwell all the next day.
What snacks don’t go well with champagne
Food with an aggressive taste and smell will overwhelm the subtle notes of a noble drink:
- chocolate products. Chocolate masks the poor quality of the drink;
- red meat. Sausages, balyk, basturma go well with beer;
- onion and garlic. Their strong taste and smell will overpower the noble bouquet of sparkling wine;
- oriental sweets. Due to the fact that they are cloyingly sweet, sparkling wine will seem sour after them.
This food goes well with other drinks.
How to open a bottle, pour and drink champagne
Before the feast, the drink must be slightly cooled. The bottle is served to the table in a bucket of cold water, where ice floats.
Taking a bottle in hand, it is not shaken. To open it correctly, it is scrolled, holding it at an angle of 45 degrees. If you twist the bottle, and not the cork, it will open with a slight exhalation, and not with a pop.
Sparkling wine is poured into a tilted glass. The trickle should run slowly along the wall. Thanks to this, the foam does not pour over the edge with a cap. The wine is poured into three quarters of the glass.
Sparkling wine is drunk slowly, savoring its taste. Before use, observe its play and enjoy its delicate aroma.
Champagne loses its flavor and sparkle when heated. Therefore, the glass must be held by the stem, and not by the upper part, so that the drink is not heated by hand.
Sparkling wines are served both before meals and for main courses, for desserts. And observing the culture of drinking, it is worth remembering the insidiousness of a drink with a high content of carbon dioxide. Due to this, the absorption of alcohol increases and you may not notice rapid intoxication.
