There are so many ways to lose weight! And some of them require minimal effort. But how effective they are is a big question that interests even scientists.
Probably, the overwhelming majority of women dream of losing at least a little weight – or, for a start, adjusting their dietary habits and eating less harmful, but such delicious desserts and snacks. But fighting willpower can be very difficult. Even after weeks of difficult but successful dieting, there may be a fleeting urge to feast on the “forbidden”. And how difficult it is to resist him!
This is why scientists have been looking for new and effective methods for decades that can really affect our cravings for addictions.
So, back in the late 1990s, Alan Hirsch, an American neuroscientist, head of the Smell and Taste Research Foundation, presented his way to reduce appetite to the world. Alan has devoted his entire life to the analysis of fragrances and has helped many companies wishing to draw attention to their products with the help of fragrances.
The main concept of Hirsch’s research was the following: it is not necessary to suppress appetite with the help of unattractive aromas that cause disgust and instantly drive away thoughts of food. Pleasant, tasty smells also have a beneficial effect on our receptors.
It may seem that the aromas inherent in your favorite foods and dishes, on the contrary, arouse the desire to eat as soon as possible. With some smells, this is true. However, a whole group of natural plant fragrances “work” in a completely different direction. They suppress emotional hunger and make you give up the idea of eating something attractive.
So, in the very first study of Hirsch, more than three thousand overweight volunteers took part. All of them were given mini-inhalers with mint, green apple and banana flavors. They had to inhale them every time they feel hungry, but at the same time not change their usual diet.
The results were overwhelming. For six months of the experiment, many of the subjects were able to noticeably lose weight, as well as get rid of cravings for salty, fatty and sweet!
So, one of the participants in the observation recalled the case, as always mechanically ate a donut, which her colleague treated her, but after taking a couple of breaths of aromatic oils, she lost interest in her favorite pastries.
Since then, the methodology of the American scientist has repeatedly been subjected to new tests and has always proved its effectiveness – of course, with the conscientious fulfillment of the conditions by the losing weight. The Hirsch method has become the basis of modern aromatherapy and is regularly used in the creation of means to suppress negative emotions and appetite.
For example, Grow Food, a well-known Russian healthy food delivery company, together with the Aroma Library (Demeter) released aroma candles that suppress appetite. The collection includes three candles with scents recommended by Hirsch: “You Won’t Think About Cherry Pie” with notes of sakura, “You Will Forget About Charlotte” with apple and cinnamon, and “I Will Not Let Think of Lemon Tart” with a bright citrus scent.
The next time you feel like something harmful, just light them up and enjoy a sweet composition that will ward off thoughts of excess food intake and keep your figure.
