Beer is traditionally considered a purely masculine drink. While beautiful ladies ordered from Earl Gray teahouses and ate his air cake, their husbands, depending on their social status, gathered in pubs, bars or respectable clubs – but there they did not drink tea at all.
It was only towards the end of the XNUMXth century that brewers realized that they were missing out on a huge market, and they took care of the problem of creating beer for women. It turned out that ladies willingly drink ales, lagers and even stouts, but it is important to take into account a few nuances.
1. Sweetness. Women’s beer is sweeter than men’s. Belgian lambics are considered classics – cherry and raspberry craft. However, you can add fruit syrup to any beer: this is how varieties with citrus, caramel, mango, and spicy flavors appeared in stores. There is women’s beer with a high content of the natural antioxidant lecithin and folic acid, which is beneficial for the immune system and the circulatory system, you can find a lager with a soothing herbal collection – in a word, instead of a bitter strong drink, a lady gets something between a slightly fermented juice and a vitamin cocktail.
In some countries, such as Poland, girls often order beer and juice in cafes, and such a request does not surprise the waiter at all. European producers decided to make life easier for the ladies and opened several lines for the production of sweetish beer: this category includes low-malt fruit ciders, wheat ales with additives, rice beer with berry flavor.
2. Fortress. Women’s beer should not be strong. The alcohol content in such a drink ranges from a frivolous one degree to a respectable 5%, but still it is much lower than in the “male” variations.
Girls drink alcohol not so much for the sake of effect, but for the sake of a pleasant taste and a relaxed pastime among friends, so it is not at all necessary that the beer “knocks you off your feet” after the first glass.
At the same time, ladies are extremely supportive of the classic British stout – perhaps due to its thick creamy taste and slightly sweet bitterness. Also, ladies often order dry lager in pubs – this is a rather strong alcohol (up to 6%), which has a low density. Finally, Rauch Lager, a light beer with a deep rich aroma, a compromise between “fruity water” and “real man’s” drink, can be included in the same category.
3. The content of carbon dioxide. Many women love highly carbonated beer. Manufacturers, adjusting to the needs of the target audience, champagne (saturate with gas) hoppy ales, supplying the market with bitter “soda” with a small alcohol content. This is best combined with the already mentioned fruit additives – such “beer lemonades” are very popular among the beautiful half of humanity.
4. Beautiful bottle. For girls, it is not so much the result (alcohol intoxication) that is important, but the process itself. Just drinking delicious beer is not enough, the main thing is to do it in style. Brewers have long noticed that beautifully packaged lagers sell better than standard bottles, and therefore spend a lot of time and effort developing attractive designs for “feminine” beers.
One manufacturer went even further and came up with a stylish tap for draft beer in bars: slender, thin and elegant, it invariably attracts the attention of visitors, increasing the revenue of the establishment.
Snacks for women’s beer
There are no special snacks for women’s beer, so you can safely use the “cider” menu, especially since the apple alcoholic drink is not far from light fruit lambic in taste and strength.
Seafood is good – shrimp, mussels, oysters. Gourmet ladies can try to have a bite of gourmet beer with grape snails. Vegetarians will be happy to know that ale pairs well with just about any fresh vegetable or “summer” salad.
Lovers of heavier food can stop at breaded or grilled chicken breasts, cold cuts, and a cheese plate. Tender salmon or tuna is always appropriate.
Finally, beer with fruit juice can be served with fruits themselves, ice cream or a light creamy dessert.
Exceptions to the rules
While working on this material, we conducted a small survey and found out that, despite the statistics, there are “iron ladies” who recognize only one beer – strong, dark and bitter. Light wheat varieties, and even more so sweet berry flavors for them, are more like cocktails than real ales.
And yet, most girls want beer to be:
- easy;
- sweet;
- light;
- non-caloric (we must not forget about the figure);
- beautiful.
In addition, ladies have great respect for a variety of ciders with malt additives, sweet wheat ales and other original variations of traditional beer.
