Future first graders will not wait for this attribute of school life. Therefore, when choosing it, you can rely on the tastes of the child and the planned budget. Remember, a quality portfolio will keep your kids looking neat every time and save you the hassle of buying a new one every year. And what do the accepted norms say?

Rospotrebnadzor recommends for children of elementary grades knapsacks with a shape-stable back with a shoulder strap 35-40 millimeters wide. The weight of a briefcase for toddlers should not exceed 700 grams, and for a secondary school – 1 kilogram. The student’s backpack must have reflective elements on the front, side and top surfaces.

Lyudmila Marchenko, school psychologist:

– It’s not worth taking a baby for shopping. It is better to ask your son or daughter in advance about their wishes for color, plot and other nuances. The choice of school supplies is great, and a son or daughter may not be able to withstand hours of shopping or may be upset if the parents, for some reason, disagree with their choice. After the purchase, show your child how books, notebooks and accessories are folded into a knapsack so that they master this mechanism and everything works out for them quickly.

School time is a change in the whole life of a child. It is necessary to organize the daily routine so that he has enough strength and energy for the whole day. But the regime should be introduced not from September 1, but two to three weeks before the start of the school year, so that the baby’s body has time to rebuild. Children 7 years old should sleep at least 10 hours. In order for a first grader to get up at 7 in the morning, he needs to fall asleep at 9 in the evening. His independence is also important: he gets up, does exercises, brushes his teeth, washes, dresses. Elementary students must walk for at least 3 hours a day. After the end of the lessons, the child needs to walk a little before lunch. Then at 13: 30-14: 00 – lunch. After that, it is better to allow the baby to rest or even sleep, since after school the performance of the first grader drops sharply. The optimal time for lessons, which should not take more than half an hour, is from 15:00 to 17:00. After – walks or additional activities. Then dinner is scheduled at 19:00. And again a walk, which will help the first grader to relax and fall asleep faster.

If the teacher at the meeting before the start of the school year gave a list of necessary supplies, that’s good. If not, you should not empty your wallets by the beginning of the year and buy the entire range of stationery at once, since not everything may be needed in the educational process. It is better to buy what you need gradually – the teacher will warn you in advance when you need something else.

By September 1, a pencil case, several ballpoint pens with blue paste, a pair of ballpoint pens with green paste, colored pencils, a few simple pencils, a book holder, a plastic ruler 15-20 centimeters long, an album for drawing, notebooks for writing, covers should be purchased for notebooks and books.

Natalia Safronova, primary school teacher:

– First of all, parents should, before buying school supplies, understand that whatever they buy, it should first of all be convenient for their child and not distract from work, from a knapsack to an eraser. Try it yourself before buying. The pencil case should be small and convenient – quickly open and close. Check in advance how ballpoint pens write, whether the refills are dirty. Colored pencils should be soft, easy to slide on the paper, so that drawing and coloring will be a pleasure for the child. 10 colors are enough. Buy simple pencils of high quality, medium soft-hardness, which will be easy for him to sharpen at home. Parents do not pay enough attention to the book holder. But it helps to competently organize the student’s study place and forms the correct posture, as well as relieves overstrain of the baby’s eye muscles. It is better to buy two or three thin sketchbooks for drawing. Firstly, this will save the child from the extra weight of the knapsack, and secondly, the large album will become unusable before the child has time to use it. Notebooks for writing should be of good printing quality with white pages and clearly traced lines in a dense cover without a picture. Stock up immediately with a sufficient number of covers for notebooks and books of different sizes of dense quality.

If the school does not have a certain type of school clothes, then the parents are free to choose what the child will wear to the 1st grade. At the same time, the traditions adopted in school life should be taken into account.

Natalia Safronova, primary school teacher:

– From the 1st grade we tell children that school is our job, and we teach from childhood to distinguish between business clothes and casual, home and leisure clothes.

Boys will need business dress pants in black, navy or gray, a white shirt, and a few pastel-colored shirts. For girls – a skirt or a sundress of a business style, a white dress and plain dull blouses.

Olga Kozhanova, candidate of medical sciences, doctor of the highest category:

– Before school, the child undergoes a consultation with specialists, including an ophthalmologist. If a future first grader has vision problems, the school will only worsen the situation. In class, such children should sit as close to the board as possible and look at it directly, without squinting their eyes.

In addition to the individual recommendations of a specialist, you need to try to organize the workplace at home as competently as possible: the desk should be located at the level of the baby’s chest, the distance between the book or notebook and the child’s eyes should be 40-45 centimeters. Form the habit of resting your child during visual work. Physical exercises and exercises for the eyes: turn your eyes in different directions, blink, look from loved ones to distant objects and back. When working, the main lighting should be on the left for right-handers and, conversely, on the right for left-handers. The best lighting is natural, but a table lamp is a necessary attribute for a student. The more contrasting what is written on the sheet, the better for the student, so we choose notebooks with white paper.
