There are also emergencies at home

Although we associate the house with a sense of security, sometimes emergencies also happen here. Burns, cuts, wounds – the list of possibilities is quite extensive. That is why it is so important to always have medications and hygiene measures ready to help you in an emergency.

First of all, start by checking if there is a first aid kit in your home. In stores, you can buy ready-made boxes in which the necessary things are placed. However, you can also prepare such a security kit yourself. See what should be in it.

Home first aid kit – what to put in?

There are no regulations or standards that would suggest what should be in a home first aid kit. In fact, we should complete it with “common sense”. The things we put into it should be divided into several categories.

Dressings and disinfectants:

  1. sterile gauze, non-sterile gauze and bandages,
  2. plasters with dressings (of various sizes),
  3. a plaster without a dressing,
  4. sterile compresses,
  5. moon,
  6. hydrogen peroxide,
  7. salicylic alcohol.

Anxieties:

  1. painkillers, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic (mainly paracetamol, because it is also safe for children). For adults, you can also pack ibuprofen or aspirin,
  2. anti-diarrheal (e.g. loperamide, medicinal charcoal),
  3. electrolytes (necessary in case of poisoning),
  4. saline for eye rinsing,
  5. lime in case of an allergic reaction,
  6. remedies for colds, including nasal drops, antitussive syrup, expectorant syrup, lozenges for sore throat, vitamins (mainly C and D).

How to store a home first aid kit?

Getting the first aid kit right is half the battle. How you store it is also important. Remember that medications should not be located close to heat sources. Therefore, the cupboard in the kitchen is completely out of the question. So is the bathroom, which in turn is too humid. Medicines must be stored in a dry and cool place. For example, think about a cupboard in a bedroom or a living room.

Also remember that the place where you put your home first aid kit must be out of the reach of children and animals. Out of curiosity, the little ones can take the pills out and swallow them, which can lead to a tragedy.

Also, don’t forget about another important point. From time to time, check your home medicine cabinet and check the expiry date of individual medications. Under no circumstances should you use expired medications. All such drugs should be immediately taken to the pharmacy, where there are usually containers for this type of product. Thanks to this, you can be sure that they will be disposed of and will not fall into the wrong hands.

Car first aid kit equipment

We spend a lot of time not only at home, but also in the car. Thus, we are exposed to the fact that we will be witnesses or participants of accidents and crashes. That is why it is so important to have a first aid kit in every car. What should we put in it?

  1. sterile gauze compresses,
  2. plasters with dressing,
  3. plasters without dressing,
  4. bandages,
  5. elastic headband,
  6. disinfectants,
  7. a mouth-to-mouth mask for artificial respiration – preferably two or three,
  8. a triangular scarf,
  9. protective gloves,
  10. blanket made of heat-insulating foil.

It is also worth putting scissors there, which will help us cut open clothes, for example. In addition, do not forget to include the first aid instructions in it as well. In a stressful situation, fear can paralyze you, making it impossible to save.

Also remember that if you witness an accident, you have a duty to help the injured. If you fail to do so, you face up to three years imprisonment.
