Today is the golden time for walking and hiking. And those who prefer such active rest, ask themselves the question: what nutritious should you take with you? After all, walking and fresh air will definitely affect your appetite, and the body will require restoring strength and energy. At the same time, I absolutely do not want to lug heavy perishable food with me. So what should you take?
What not to take
First, cross out heavy, easily breakable dishes, heavy metal thermoses, cans from the list. And also such products as boiled sausage, fried or boiled chicken, smoked fish, eggs, juicy vegetables, cakes. Everything that can deteriorate under the scorching sun and cause poisoning, everything that can leak, crush and give you additional trouble on the way.
What to take
A group that is going on a hike should definitely take with them camping utensils for cooking and heating food – they are made of stainless steel or safe plastic. Disposable tableware is not suitable for a long hike; it breaks down quickly, is lost and pollutes the environment. Therefore, the spoon must be made of steel, but the fork can be omitted. Do not forget about the knife – preferably a folding one.
A burner, matches are needed, since it is often forbidden to make fires in nature or it is inconvenient to carry a large supply of firewood with you. All this can be distributed among all participants in the hike.
The food supply is calculated based on the number of days, participants, geographical features (whether, for example, there will be shops along the way), on the complexity of the route and modes of travel, and, of course, based on personal preferences.
The basis of the diet should be carbohydrate products – buckwheat, rice or other cereals, pasta. Of meat, it is better to prefer jerky, dry or canned (stewed).
Vegetarians can take legumes dry or canned with them.
You can take dried foods with you – they weigh a little and are stored for a long time: greens, milk, nuts, mushrooms, dried fruits. Grab some of your favorite condiments to spice up your meals outdoors.
Take care of a stock of your favorite tea, on cool evenings it will come in handy, besides, it will give you comfort and romance. Take some lollipops for tea.
For a hike, the rule on the prohibition of sweets is canceled; every traveler should have an energy snack. It can be condensed milk, halva, nut bar, chocolate. Something that can cheer you up and will be a reward for tea for a difficult journey.
So, an approximate menu for one traveler for 1 week:
- 1 kg of cereals,
- 100-200 grams of meat,
- 200 grams of beans
- 300 grams of dried vegetables
- 200 grams of milk powder,
- 300 grams of a mixture of dried fruits and nuts,
- tea or coffee on demand,
- sweets,
- spice
- and salt.
Water on a hike is needed not only to quench your thirst, but also for cooking. Thinking over routes, study the map of the area for springs or other sources of water (villages with wells, shops). For carrying water, one and a half liter plastic bottles are considered optimal, as well as 5 liter bottles.
Do not leave food unattended, carefully cover it from bad weather, small rodents and insects.
Enjoy your vacation!
