Co Prestarium is a prescription drug dedicated to people struggling with hypertension or coronary artery disease. Taking the drug reduces the risk of stroke, heart or kidney failure, and a heart attack. How does Co Prestarium work and how to dose it. Can I take Co Prestarium and consume alcohol at the same time?
What Prestarium – drug characteristics
The drug Co Prestarium is sold by prescription in the form of coated tablets. It contains two active substances, which are an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor called perindopril and a calcium antagonist from the group of dihydropyridine derivatives, i.e. amlodipine. Co Prestarium tablets also contain lactose. It is worth remembering this, especially in the case of lactose intolerance.
How does Co Prestarium work?
The action of Co Prestarium is based on a common mechanism of its two main active substances, perindopril and amlodipine. Their joint action inhibits the activity of the enzyme that is responsible for the formation of angiotensin II. Stopping this enzyme from activity limits the conversion of inactive angiotensin I to active angiotensin II. Angiotensin II greatly influences the pathology of blood pressure. As a result of its action, blood vessels contract and the release of aldosterone, which is responsible for hypertension, is increased. The active substances contained in Co Prestarium reduce the concentration of angiotensin II, thanks to which the blood pressure is lowered. In addition, they protect blood vessels, demonstrating anti-atherosclerotic properties.
What Prestarium – indications and contraindications
Due to the specificity of Co Prestarium, the indication for its use is arterial hypertension, symptomatic heart failure and stable coronary artery disease. The main contraindication to taking Co Prestarium is hypersensitivity to any component of this preparation. Additionally, the drug cannot be taken by people with a history of angioedema. What Prestarium is also not indicated for pregnant women. This drug should also not be used by people who are struggling with diabetes and impaired renal efficiency.
Dosage of the drug Co Prestarium
The dosage of Co Prestarium depends on the severity of the disease, which is arterial hypertension. People who already struggle with high blood pressure should take a dose of 5 mg a day. This is an initial dose that may be increased or decreased by a specialist physician at subsequent check-ups. People at risk of arterial hypertension should start taking Co Cessarium with half the dose, i.e. 2,5 mg per day. Please note that the final dose is always determined by your doctor.
The use of Co Prestarium and alcohol
You should be careful with alcohol when taking most medications. It is similar in the case of Co Prestarium. Drinking large amounts of alcohol significantly increases blood pressure. Therefore, for the treatment with the drug to be effective, you should limit your drinking or give up alcohol altogether.
