What pressure is needed for a washing machine – tips

It seems that there is nothing complicated: I bought a washing machine, connected it, loaded the laundry. In fact, it turns out that the automatic washing machine requires optimal water pressure in the water supply. It’s good if there is water supply in the village, but what about those who don’t?

Indications for the installation of SMA

Appliance manufacturers are trying to improve their washing machines, to make them more economical. In order to reduce the operating time in modes that require water intake, you need to quickly fill it into the tank. Therefore, a good pressure in the water supply is needed.

What water pressure is needed for a washing machine? Depends on the programming of the electronic module. One washer may not start at all, flashing a fault code on the display. Another SM, due to the low pressure, will significantly reduce the quality of the wash, since detergents will be washed off with difficulty. In order not to make an unnecessary purchase, let’s figure out what pressure is needed for a washing machine from different manufacturers.

  • For LG, Electrolux, Daewoo, Zanussi and Samsung machines, the preferred pressure is from 0,3 bar. There are also 0,4 bar – it depends on the settings of the main module.
  • Models CMA Indesit, Whirlpool, Beko, AEG, Ariston and Candy require a minimum of 0,4 bar. In practice, many of these machines will operate at lower pressures.
  • Bosch and Miele automatic washing machines will function normally if the minimum pressure is 0,5 bar. Although the exact readings depend on the specific model.
  • The Atlant washing machine requires a minimum pressure of 0,6 bar, and the record figure for Kuppersbush is as much as 0,8-0,9 bar. Depending on the model, the indicator may drop to 0,5 bar.

For residents of a village or the private sector, where there are problems with water supply, the water pressure barely reaches 0,1 bar. That is, it does not even reach the minimum level of water pressure for a washing machine.

Way out

If you have reduced water pressure, this does not mean that you cannot use the equipment. There are two options for you:

  1. Install a booster pump to pump water into the washing machine.
  2. If there is no running water at all, buy a washer that does not require connection to the central water supply.

Let’s take a closer look at both options. By installing the pump, you will increase the pressure to the desired level, you will no longer be bothered by pressure problems.

Convenience of a pump that increases water pressure

After connecting the pump, another question arises: how do you know that it’s time to pour water into the washer? In normal mode, the module gives a signal to the inlet valve, it opens and fills with water. But if you turn on the pump when the valve is closed, it will lead to an emergency. To supply water to the washing machine has become more convenient, there is this way:

  • You need to get to the intake valve. To do this, unscrew the two screws at the back, remove the top cover.
  • At the top of the wall is a valve.
  • Two wires lead to each valve, to which the terminals are connected. Then two wires are connected to the terminals, which must be led out of the case.
  • These two wires (A and B) are connected to the current source according to the following scheme:
  • A relay is installed at the output, the contacts of which are connected to the pump. It turns out a kind of automatic water pressure for the pump.

Now the valves and the pump are connected: when the washing machine gives a signal to draw water, the relay will work and the pump will turn on. Without voltage applied to the valve, water injection will stop. You can make such a connection yourself. Then you do not have to be on duty at the car for hours, controlling the water intake.

Options for connecting a washing machine without plumbing

If there is no plumbing, then neither the pump nor the high pressure hose for the washing machine will help. The solution would be to buy a car with a tank. TM Gorenje produces such models.

Such machines do not require a connection to the water supply. A special reservoir of various volumes is connected to their body. Water is poured into it manually, after which the washing is performed as in a conventional automatic machine.

Standalone models have a built-in pressure pump. Thanks to him, the pressure of water effectively washes away the detergents in the cuvette, so the quality of washing is at a high level. Depending on the selected volume of the water tank, there is enough water for 2-6 washes. The range of such washing machines is not too wide, but you can choose interesting and ergonomic options. Of course, the price category of such SMAs is somewhat higher than that of conventional ones – this must be taken into account.

Attention! The owners of such machines complain about a significant drawback: because of the narrow neck, the tank is inconvenient to wash. But this is fully compensated by the fact that without running water you can wash things quite well.
