What is worth buying for the New Year’s table right now

What is worth buying for the New Year’s table right now

And it’s not just about products! It’s time to think about aesthetics.

This year, as in the past, December 31 falls on a working day. Some companies may make it a day off, but many will have to plow honestly, albeit an incomplete day. Therefore, leaving purchases for the last weekend before the New Year hardly makes sense: the flea market will be hellish, and the assortment will be scarce. And a few things are worth stocking up in advance. For example, already this weekend.

Vegetables and fruits

Everything you need for Olivier, herring under a fur coat and other salads. Potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, cabbage (both ordinary and Peking cabbage) will last until X hour without any problems. And on the last weekend before the holiday, you will also have time to boil everything you need so that you don’t have to mess around on the last day.

Apples, pears, oranges and other fruits also make sense to buy in advance. They will last three weeks without problems if stored properly. But we do not recommend buying greens, cucumbers and tomatoes now: they will wither. It is also better to buy tangerines later, at least a week and a half. Like bananas – even if they are completely green, they will ripen much faster than six weeks.

Freezing

For example, crab sticks if you like salad with them. And also – ice cream for dessert, berries for baking and cocktails, mushrooms for fillings and baking, dough for pastries and cakes, shrimps and other seafood. Before the holiday, the choice will be already poor.

Meat

Only when it comes to frozen meat. For example, goose or duck carcass, pork tenderloin or steaks, pork legs or tails for jellied meat. Of course, it is better to buy fresh meat, but before the New Year it will be difficult to snatch a good piece. In addition, the symbol of the coming year – the White Bull – will not treat beef on the table favorably.

But fish is not an option. It is highly likely that after defrosting, the fish will simply fall apart into pieces.

Canned food

Peas, corn, mushrooms, olives, cucumbers for salads, canned fruits – all this can be stored without problems for a very long time. In addition, canned food in cans is quite heavy, so you may not be able to do everything in one trip to the store.

Mayonnaise and spices

Or vegetable oil if you’re going to make the sauce yourself. Mayonnaise and other dressings will last great until the holiday, even outside the refrigerator. Check the spice stocks at the same time: pepper, coriander, turmeric, curry are often needed, but they end suddenly. As well as baking powder, vanilla, other goodies for baking, and even flour.

Smoked sausage

Boiled sausages, even in vacuum packaging, have no chances to last until the holiday. Therefore, it is better to postpone its purchase for at least another four to five weeks. Cooked-smoked delicacies are also better to choose later. But raw smoked sausage can be bought now. True, she, too, may not live up to the holiday, there is a possibility that the household will not be able to restrain herself and will devour her.

Caviar

Whether in tin cans or in plastic packaging, the main festive delicacy will not deteriorate for a little over three weeks left before the holiday. Just do not buy caviar of unknown origin: it may turn out that it is deliberately stale, or even spoiled.

Eggs

Chicken, quail – no difference. If you store your eggs properly, they will stay on the refrigerator shelf for a month without any problems. By the holiday, they will certainly rise in price, so check the expiration date (especially for quail eggs!) And feel free to buy.

Soft drinks and sweets

Water, juice, soda – once a year you can even treat yourself to cola. As well as chocolates and sweets. The main thing is to keep sweets away from children. Otherwise, the juice and sweets will not have a chance to survive.

Alcohol

This is obvious – it does not deteriorate. And the choice of champagne is still more impressive than it will be closer to the holiday: store stocks will significantly decrease. And discounts on sparkling wine are unlikely.

Baking Ingredients

If you’re going to bake a cake, check to see which ingredients are available at home. Cream, condensed milk, soft pasteurized cheese for cream, vanilla, gelatin, baking powder, confectionery sprinkles and coconut flakes – few people have such things in the kitchen all the time. And flour, butter and sugar tend to run out at the most inopportune moment.

Herring

If you are going to make a “fur coat”, then the main ingredient of the salad can be stocked up in advance. But you should buy only uncut carcasses, hermetically packed in a plastic jar with brine. Such a herring will stay in the refrigerator without any problems for two months.

Napkins, foil, parchment

As well as a baking sleeve, festive table decor: candles, for example. In general, everything that is likely to be needed in cooking and serving. Check if you have enough of everything and if you will not have to put mismatched dishes on the table.
