What is Trosicam?

Trosicam is the trade name for orodispersible analgesic and anti-inflammatory tablets. It is a prescription drug. The active substance of the preparation is meloxicam. The preparation is available in the pharmacy in two doses: 7,5 mg and 15 mg, both in packets of 20 tablets. The lower dose is not reimbursed, while the 15 mg dose is a drug reimbursed by the National Health Fund.

How does Trosicam work and how is it used?

The active substance of Trosicam is meloxicam, a compound belonging to the group of the so-called NSAIDs – non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Action of meloxicam consists in inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are inflammatory mediators. This happens by blocking the activity of the COX-2 enzyme (cyclooxygenase 2). Inhibition of further reactions, the so-called cascades of inflammation, it provokes effect analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic.

As the drug trosicam well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and penetrates into the synovial fluid, it is used primarily in the treatment of acute attacks of osteoarthritis (temporary) and in the treatment of symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis. Meloxicam is dosed once daily as one tablet (7,5 or 15 mg). The manufacturer of Trosicam is Alpex Pharma.

Effect of Trosicam on the gastrointestinal mucosa and blood coagulation

Meloxy combLike most NSAID preparations, it inhibits not only COX-2 – the enzyme responsible for inflammation – but also COX-1 – constitutive cyclooxygenase. COX-1 is an enzyme whose action does not lead to inflammation, but substances necessary for the proper functioning of cells, in particular the kidneys, digestive system and bloodstream. Luckily meloxicam it blocks COX-2 to a greater extent than COX-1, but its prolonged use may have a negative effect on the condition of the digestive system mucosa (mainly the stomach), reduces blood flow through the kidneys and interferes with the functioning of platelets (resulting in an anti-aggregating effect). Be sure not to apply Let’s eat with other flu drugs NSAIDs (increase in side effects) and with drugs that affect the blood clotting process. Contraindications to the use of Trosicam

An absolute contraindication to the use of the drug is hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients of the preparation. The drug may affect psychomotor performance and may impair driving.

The most common side effects these include gastrointestinal reactions (e.g. nausea, vomiting and diarrhea).
