What is the use of idleness?

Weekend or vacation, and you just can not stop and do nothing? Achievement is important. But where can you get strength for them if you don’t really rest? The expert explains why it’s good to sit back and how to do it to the maximum benefit for yourself.

Society is focused on success. A synonym for success today has become a constant movement. However, people do not have an eternal battery inside, and a reboot is vital for them. In the “squirrels in the wheel” mode, no one will last long and will not be able to consistently achieve high results. How to immerse yourself in “doing nothing” and why is it necessary?

How to be lazy

There are several ways to “do nothing”:

  • free way of life – a person simply does not bother himself, spends time idly, does only what he likes;
  • relaxation, avoiding work – reading books, walking, watching your favorite movies;
  • self-absorption is when a person really does nothing at all, stops and meets himself in the moment here and now.

The first method will not bring any benefit, but will only lead us away from our goals, confuse the landmarks. Two other ways help to reboot, fill up with energy, understand yourself and your true desires.

It’s like working out at the gym. They will be useless if you do not give the body a rest, because just at the time of relaxation, the body completes the processes launched in the classroom. The more you “pump”, grow on yourself, work, do different things, the more relaxation, rest, freedom, air and space should be in life.

“I can’t do nothing” – why?

Most often, the reason for this is the attitudes learned in childhood. This happens with people to whom mom or dad said: “What are you lying about? We work from morning to night! Go do something!” Then, even in adulthood, this inner censor remains with us, a voice that mercilessly “cuts down” all attempts to relax. And in vain: when a person gets high from rituals, bodily practices and other ways of relaxation that suit him, he does as much as possible for his further growth, development and advancement in all areas. And do not reproach yourself for watching the series, relaxing on the couch or talking with a friend!

Why is it important to rest

When we only work, study and take care of the household, there is no space for creativity, insights and ideas. And they come to us only during periods of rest, while we realize them during active operations.

New creative ideas are important in any specialty and profession. Employees who are able to creatively and out of the box approach solving complex issues are highly valued and usually receive higher salaries compared to those who perform mundane activities without supplementing them with something new, without improving processes.

Benefits of “doing nothing”

Being idle is not only good for working well later, but also:

  • For good health – regular pauses during the working day (5-10 minutes) reduce the heart rate, improve digestion, protect the nervous system from emotional exhaustion and improve mood.
  • For brain – periods of inactivity increase the level of oxygen, glucose, which has a beneficial effect on the work of the mind.
  • For quality of life – if the periods of doing nothing are regular, the mind is cleared and life is improved, because the person can catch excellent insights regarding the way forward.

And here the balance is important, and not “I will now legally mess around and do nothing else at all, the psychologist allowed me.” It is important to build your life in such a way that it has space for rest, recharging, filling your body with strength and inspiration. And also, of course, it should also have space for active actions, for the implementation of these ideas and plans – work, study, personal affairs.

How to learn to rest properly

You need to understand that it is important to work and achieve your goals, but also to relax. Then in life there will be a place for both productivity and development. To properly relax, you should follow a few recommendations.

  1. Don’t go from one extreme to another. There is no need to reboot for weeks avoiding people and communication. And to give yourself a rest from work only in a short night’s sleep – too. In an intensive work schedule and among routine household chores, spend 5 minutes on yourself several times a day. It’s enough.
  2. Engage in sometimes sometimes complete “doing nothing.” Namely: do not hit parties with friends, do not waste time on leisure and hobbies, but plunge into a meditative state without a phone, TV, conversations. To do this, you can go to the shore of a reservoir or to a park. Try to think freely, at the same time about everything in the world and about nothing in particular.
  3. Get enough sleep. Everyone has their own indicator, but it needs to be discovered and observed, as well as to organize comfortable conditions for this. If possible, take a short nap during the day.
  4. Take a break after waking up. You can calmly take a break while lying in bed. You need to focus and “scan” the body for tension. Begin to breathe measuredly and calmly, relaxing your muscles. So the mind calms down, the body tunes in to the working mood and excellent well-being is ensured during the day.
  5. Track in time and do not replace one “must” with another. Rest should be a complete rest, and not just an attempt to change activities a bit and force yourself to do something else that “I don’t want to, but I need to.” Give yourself every right not to be helpful for a while.
