How is bile reflux treated?
Hello, I would like to ask you about a problem that I have been struggling with for a long time. The point is, what the treatment looks like and bile reflux diet? Symptoms of bile reflux I’ve had it for a long time, but I assumed it was just a matter of unhealthy diet and the stress I was exposed to. After the initial diagnosis, the doctor began to suspect bile reflux. Since I still have to wait for my appointment, I would like to ask, what is the treatment of bile reflux? Will I need to take any special medications for bile reflux?
And if so, what side effects they may have medications for bile reflux? I also assume that I should work more on my diet, but I don’t know what rules I should follow. What should it look like diet for bile reflux? What products should you avoid in it? I’ve been trying to eat a healthier diet for a while now, but eliminating sweets and sodas didn’t help much, and it didn’t reduce the symptoms of bile reflux at all. I am asking for tips on treating bile reflux, as well as some recommendations for a bile reflux diet.
The doctor explains what treatment for bile reflux looks like
Bile is the digestive secretion that is physiologically produced in the liver and is responsible for the digestion and absorption of fats. It is produced by the liver cells and stored in the gallbladder. The fat-rich alimentary content appearing in the digestive tract causes the bile stored in the follicle to be secreted into the duodenum, where the digestion of fats takes place, and then enters the intestine with other digestive juices, ensuring the optimal pH for pancreatic and intestinal enzymes.
However, if the bile is thrown up the digestive tract, i.e. towards the stomach, and sometimes even the esophagus, we are talking about bile reflux. This condition is characterized by symptoms such as: epigastric pain, often very intense, frequent heartburn, nausea and vomiting with green-yellow content, sometimes there is also a cough and weight loss.
The cause of this condition may be insufficient tone of the stomach pylorus, which, after the gastric contents have been passed from the stomach into the duodenum, should close tight enough to prevent the gastric contents from returning to the stomach.
Treatment is mainly pharmacological with ursodeoxycholic acid or proton pump inhibitors. The doctor may also suggest surgical treatment if conservative treatment is unsuccessful or if a precancerous lesion is found in the samples taken from the endoscopic examination.
Common side effects of ursodeoxycholic acid include light stools, diarrhea, and very rarely severe pain in the right upper abdominal quadrant. The most common side effects of PPIs include headache, diarrhea, constipation, gas, abdominal pain, and rash.
