The name is associated quite clearly and I wonder if this ailment is actually related to some changed shape or texture of the tongue?

What is the scrotal tongue? And is this ailment curable or if it is detected, you have to live with it forever? And I would like to ask if the scrotum is a disease that is associated with the occurrence of a disease or is it a separate disease entity? I am worried what it might be … Somewhere I only saw that it was related to a cracked tongue, but I couldn’t find much information about the scrotum. I would be grateful for answering my questions.

The doctor explains what the scrotum is

The scrotal tongue, otherwise scrotal, furrowed or short, is characterized, as the name suggests, by the presence of numerous transverse slits and furrows on the dorsal surface of the tongue. The size and number of the furrows may vary from patient to patient. It is often a developmental change treated as one of the anatomical variants. When it is not associated with any disease, it does not require medical intervention. This change promotes the accumulation of food in the furrows and can lead to inflammation in the event of inadequate oral hygiene.

It is recommended to gently brush the surface of the tongue in order to get food debris out of the gaps in the tongue and to prevent bacterial colonization. Sometimes natural furrows on the tongue they may worsen with age, in smokers, in strong tea drinkers, and in some conditions such as Sjögren’s syndrome, psoriasis. There has also been an association between the presence of the scrotal tongue and Down syndrome and Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (a rare neurological syndrome caused by recurrent vasculitis).

The scrotal tongue may coexist with a geographic language that resembles a map with irregularly distributed red, wartless spots well demarcated from the whitish surfaces of the normal mucosa. It can run in the family. There is a relationship between the occurrence of geographical language and certain immunological diseases, with nutritional deficiencies, psychosomatic disorders, or with irritating factors.

In summary, the scrotal tongue is often a variant of the norm that does not cause health problems. However, it may appear in the course of some diseases or syndromes of birth defects. In order to exclude the accompanying disease, go to a doctor who will collect the medical history, examine the patient and decide on possible further diagnostics and refer them to a specialist.
