What is the frog bread that everyone is talking about

It is not surprising that, while in quarantine, people began to cook more often. But besides meeting physiological needs, food preparation is also creative. New recipes are mastered, culinary challenges are launched, funny trends appear.

So, one of them is the so-called “Frog Bread”. It lies in the fact that people all over the world are trying to bake frog-like bread and post their creations on various social platforms. It has turned into a kind of competition – users compare bread options in search of the one that most resembles a frog.

Moreover, bread does not have a single recipe, but the appearance is almost always the same – a frog sitting on four legs with eyes made of dough balls, eyeballs made of raisins and a broadly smiling mouth.

The only requirement is that the recipe should be simple and include no more than five ingredients, the main of which is two raisins to simulate eyes.

Photos of frog bread garner millions of likes and comments.

How this trend came about

It originated in the vastness of TikTok: here users compete in the skill of creating ruddy frogs, and sometimes pretty burnt toads. On TikTok, videos tagged with the hashtag #froggybread received over 1,7 million views in a week of the trend’s existence. On Instagram, frog bread is just gaining popularity.

But – what is interesting! – frog bread is not a new idea at all. On one of the sites you can find a recipe from 2005! It’s just that during the quarantine she received what is called a new life.

How to bake frog bread

The size of Frog Bread is different – from palm to toads to an inflated balloon. But, if this is your first time baking frog bread, it is better to practice on a small size. There are many recipes on the Web. Here is a recipe from a TikTok user under the nickname tom_burmese.

“In a bowl, mix 1 cup of warm water, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of yeast, then cover this mixture with foil and leave until frothy. Then add enough flour to this mixture to make a dough, add salt and spices. Form a toad, and then send it to an oven preheated to 40 degrees for 50-180 minutes. “
