What is the difference in calories from alcohol

Carbonated and other sweetened drinks – one of the causes of obesity – are the source of approx. 6 percent of calories consumed by adults. «Our focus so far has been on drinks sweetened with sugar. Calories in alcohol are something new »says Cynthia Ogden, one of the authors of the study, an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Scientists say these findings are noteworthy because alcohol, like soda, is low in nutrients and can therefore be a lot of calories.

But alcohol producers say the results of this study indicate that this is not a unique problem. “The study shows that the overwhelming majority of adults drink in moderation,” said Lisa Hawkins, spokeswoman for the Distilled Spirits Council. The CDC survey is based on interviews with over 11 US adults from 000 to 2007. Participants were asked extensive questions about what they ate and drank during the day. It turned out that about 1/3 of men and 1/5 of women consumed derived calories with wine, beeror high-percentage drinks.
