What is the correct penis length? Check that you are within the normal range

The average length and girth of the penis is far from what can be seen in adult movies and commercials for specifics promising its spectacular enlargement. The world standard is not very strict and most men fit in it. What if someone does not fit in?

  1. Penis length is a problem that keeps many men awake at night. They wonder if they are within the norm and if it is too short
  2. According to the latest research conducted by British doctors, the average length of an erect penis is about 13 cm, and a few cm less in the fall. Shorter penises can grow by more than 80% during an erection.
  3. A study by King’s College London has shown that reducing the length of a penis by approx. 2,5 cm may result in less pleasure during intercourse

For centuries, it has been considered a determinant of masculinity. Each additional centimeter of its length can be a reason to be proud or, on the contrary, each centimeter less can make you feel complex and even depressed. Meanwhile, penis dimensions do not have to be a guarantee of a successful sex life or marital happiness, although they are not without significance. In addition, a lot depends on measuring them correctly, both in the erection state and in the so-called fall, but also on the current state of health and lifestyle, which, contrary to appearances, can change a lot. There are also many myths around the size of the male sexual organ that unnecessarily arouse emotions in the male part of society.

It is smaller than you think

Sources mention two of the most important studies of the standard dimensions of male members. They are separated by a considerable time interval and research methodology. There is quite a significant difference between the data from 1948 and those from 2015 on the average penis size of men around the world. It does not result from the fact that in over 60 years the penises have shrunk by about 1 cm, but from the fact that the first studies were based on the respondents’ own measurements. Most likely, the examined men, more or less consciously, overestimated their results. Such research was carried out in the mid-twentieth century by the American Kinsey Institute. According to these data, the average penis length in men aged 20–59 in the flaccid state was 9,70 cm, after straightening – 16,74 cm and from 12,7 to 16,5 cm in the erect state. The average circumference of an erect penis was 10-12,5 cm.

These dimensions are different according to one of the latest studies dealing with the subject of the size of a male member. The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust report, published in 2015 by the British Journal of Urology International, shows that they are smaller. Researchers from this institution analyzed the results of 17 different reports, including a total of 15,5 thousand men from all over the world. Measurements carried out only by doctors, using measuring instruments, using standardized measurement criteria were taken into account. Participants’ penises were measured from the pubic bone to the tip of the glans (without the foreskin), and the circumference at the base of the penis or half its length.

As a result of the research, scientists found that the average penis during an erection is 13,12 cm in length and 11,66 cm in girth, while the standard size of the penis at rest is 9,16 and 9,31 cm in girth. In 5 out of 100 men, the length of the penis during erection does not exceed 10 cm. A similarly small number of men can boast the largest penis size when erect. Only 6 percent. men was blessed with a very large penis, reaching more than 18 cm in erection.

  1. Penis size – how much is it on average? How to properly measure the penis?

“We believe that our results will allow doctors around the world to reassure their patients and show them that their penis length is within the normal range,” concluded one of the study authors, Dr. David Veale of King’s College London. – In addition, we want to use our chart to study the mismatch between the actual size of the penis and what men think about it.

You don’t know that about penises

  1. A small penis size at rest does not automatically mean a small size when erected. A smaller penis has a greater ability to grow larger than a large penis. Research published in the Journal of Sex Research showed that a shorter penis is able to increase its size by 86 percent, while a larger penis has the ability to increase its size by 47 percent.
  2. Smoking can help to reduce the size of your erect penis. An erection occurs due to the blood supply to the cavernous bodies in the penis. Smoking cigarettes causes the lumen of the veins and arteries to narrow, and this causes weaker blood flow. As a result, less blood reaches the smoker’s penis and his erect penis may shorten by 1 cm.
  3. The length of the penis should only be measured in a standing positionas assuming any other body position will cause measurement errors.

There is no correlation with height or BMI

Common opinions often make penis dimensions dependent on other individual characteristics of a man. Meanwhile, scientists have proved that they are not always right. During the research, no correlation between penis size and features such as height, foot size or BMI was found. The thesis about the relationship between the size of a member and belonging to a specific race or ethnic group was also not confirmed. However, there is some doubt here – the psychiatrist David Veale, who led the research, emphasized that most of the measurements were taken from Caucasian men. Therefore, research in this respect is not sufficiently reliable.

It is worth emphasizing that the average penis size differs significantly from the birth size of men appearing in pornographic films. For these roles, men are usually looking for men who are exceptionally gifted by nature, and not necessarily benchmarks. Similarly, advertisements for penis enlargement agents can be put into complexes, in which the potential effects shown do not necessarily have much to do with reality.

However, the length does matter

Theoretically, the length of the penis should not affect the satisfaction perceived from sexual intercourse, because the technical skills of a man are much more important here, as well as the fact that partners fit together. But English scientists have proven that reducing the member can reduce the pleasure felt by the partner. 12 couples were invited to participate in the study by King’s College, London. Men were given silicone rings of various sizes to be placed at the base of their erect penis. The rings either did not affect the length or shortened it by one inch (about 2,5 cm), one and a half inches, or two inches. They were to have intercourse with their partners several times, who were then asked to rate their sexual pleasure.

We found that an inch reduction in penetration depth led to a statistically significant decrease in perceived pleasure Said David Veale, lead author of the study. – The longer the penis when erect, the less likely the rings will interfere with sexual pleasure.
