Why is OB Level Too Low? What Makes OB Level Below Normal? Could an ESR that is too low be a temporary condition? Could it be a lifestyle effect? The question is answered by the drug. Anna Mitschke.

Why is OB below normal?

Good day. This is Krystian, a 30-year-old IT specialist from Kielce. In a recent study of ESR, it turned out that I have a significantly lower ESR than the norm predicts. In my case it is 1. From what the doctor told me, the minimum standard should be 3 or 4. Which could be the reason why low blood pressure? I know this is not a coincidence, although the doctor did not tell me what exactly made my ESR to this level. Maybe someone just made a mistake during the test? I would also like to add that a doctor referred me to them after I started to have quite severe stomach pains.

Sometimes they were accompanied by vomiting and slight itching of the skin, but it was not so bothersome that, for example, I could not sleep. My mother and my grandmother scare me that I am probably sick with jaundice, but still, I am still able to work, so I guess it is not the cause of low ESR? I would like to ask you to indicate what exactly may be at risk. Can the mere fact that I have low ESR mean that it is only a temporary weakness of the organism? Unfortunately, I don’t live a healthy lifestyle. I spend a lot of time in front of the computer and eat fast food a lot. Thank you in advance for your quick response and any tips on what to do next. Regards.

The doctor identifies possible causes of low ESR

OB is the Biernacki Reaction, otherwise the sinking rate of red blood cells. The test is widely used in the diagnosis of many diseases. It is not a specific factor that would indicate the presence of one particular disease. The test is primarily used to detect and monitor a variety of chronic conditions inflammation in the body. The red blood cell sedimentation rate is performed with a small amount of blood, so there are usually no contraindications to perform it.

The test is performed by collecting blood into a tube with an anticoagulant substance, and then the rate of fall of erythrocytes (red blood cells) is assessed one hour after collection. In the test tube, the red blood cells clump together thanks to the proteins in the blood. In this way, agglomerates are formed that fall to the bottom of the tube. Proteins that support the fall of red blood cells include fibrinogen, immunoglobulins, or acute phase proteins. On the other hand, the proteins that inhibit the agglomeration process are albumin.

Accelerated OB it may occur in acute and chronic inflammation, as well as in the case of injuries, surgeries, neoplastic diseases, gammapathies. Accelerated ESR may be caused by a decreased concentration of albumin in the course of liver cirrhosis or in nephrotic syndrome. We observe a slowdown in the fall of red blood cells in the case of hyperemia, polycythemia vera, anemia or in the case of fibrinogen deficiency. I suggest consulting the test results with the ordering physician.

The test of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, like other laboratory tests, should be assessed together with other parameters in the tests and based on the clinical picture presented by the patient. It is necessary to take a complete history and examine the patient. Then the doctor will be able to decide on the necessary diagnostic tests and make a decision on further treatment.
