Promille is one thousandth of something as a whole (the word is derived from lat. per thousand, per thousand – in translation means “thousands / per thousand”).

The symbol “ is used to denote ppm.‰“, which is written on the right side of the number. A fraction (part) can also be expressed as a fraction or a decimal.
Promille and fractions
Consider below the ratio of ppm and fractions (ordinary and decimal):
1. One ppm is equal to one part in a thousand, in other words, 1/1000 fractions.
1‰= 1 / 1000 = 0,001
2. 10 ppm is equal to the 10th part of a thousand, i.e. fractions of 10/1000.
10‰ = 10 / 1000 = 0,01
3. 100 ppm equals 100/1000 fractions.
100‰ = 100 / 1000 = 0,1
4. 1000 ppm is equal to the ratio 1000/1000, i.e. unit.
1000‰ = 1000 / 1000 = 1
Convert ppm to percentage
One ppm is one tenth of a percent.
1‰ = 0.1%
Conversely, one percent is equal to 10 ppm.
