What is the Poland Team about? How is Poland syndrome treated? Is Poland’s syndrome a threat to life? What is the course of the disease? Is it possible to cure the disease completely? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.
What does Poland’s syndrome mean?
Hello and I am asking for help. The doctor began to suspect my son Poland team. To be honest, I am terrified of it, because it was the first time I had ever encountered the existence of such a disease, and hearing that it was a congenital defect, I started to panic and check information on this subject, which, however, is very limited and completely unclear to me. First of all, I would like to ask what the Poland Team is and what it will be associated with, if it is actually confirmed by doctors.
Is the Poland syndrome dangerous to health and life? How does this disease proceed? For obvious reasons, I would also like to ask Fr. treatment Poland syndromeand in particular, is Poland’s syndrome curable at all? If Poland’s syndrome is actually diagnosed, will my son have any surgeries or medications? I do not hide that I am very nervous about the whole matter and I am waiting for the final diagnosis of whether it is really Poland’s Team, so I will be grateful for any information or advice.
The doctor explains what the Poladna syndrome means and how it is treated
Poland’s syndrome is a disorder in which the main symptom at birth is the absence or undeveloped muscles on one side of the body, causing disorders that may affect the shape of the chest, arm, hand and hand. Typically, patients diagnosed with Poland syndrome have undeveloped large muscles of the chest, such as the greater pectoral muscle. This causes the chest to become concave. There are also changes in the peduncle and nipple, and the hair on one armpit is more sparse than on the opposite side. Syndactyly (fingers joined together) and brachydactyly (short fingers) are also common on the side of the body that is ‘occupied’ by the disease, which is weak due to unformed muscles.
Each patient with Poland’s syndrome is different from each other, and the course of his disease may be more or less severe and involve more or less areas of the body. Neither symptom occurs in all cases. In severe cases, abnormalities also occur in the internal organs, e.g. lungs, kidneys, and the heart is usually located on the right side.
It is estimated that Poland’s syndrome is diagnosed in one in 200 newborns and occurs twice as often in boys than in girls. The cause of the syndrome is not yet known.
There is no one treatment for Poland’s syndrome. Treatment depends on what symptoms the patient has and how the symptom can be treated. There is no causal treatment in this case. Treatment should be personalized and tailored to the individual patient. Treatment will mainly consist of plastic surgery and hand surgery.
If the contour of the chest is disturbed, it can be corrected with fat grafts or implants. The same goes for breast surgery. In the case of underdevelopment of the fingers of the hand, e.g. syndactyly, where the fingers are joined together, they can be surgically separated, allowing the fingers to take up the function.
It is best to ask the attending physician, he or she has the best idea of what treatment and at what age the patient will need.
