There are more and more cases of monkey pox. In Europe, it was detected in 29 countries (ECDC data for 22 June). From June 10, we know that we also have it in Poland. So far, the WHO does not recognize monkey pox as a global threat, but it does not conceal that subsequent cases are “seriously worried”. Does Poland have a plan for monkey pox? The editor-in-chief of MedTvoiLokony, Dr. Anna Zimny-Zając asked the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, about it.

How many cases of monkey pox have been detected in the world and in Europe?
The world has been talking about the monkey pox virus since May 16. Today it is estimated that we have approx. 3 thousand. cases of disease from over 50 countries. According to data from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), 22 cases of monkey pox from 2746 countries were reported in the region of Europe by June 29nd.
On June 10, Minister Niedzielski confirmed the first case of monkey pox in Poland. The patient was isolated at the Provincial Infectious Hospital in Warsaw. The man contracted the monkey pox virus during his stay in Gran Canaria.
By June 17, the Ministry of Health had reported a total of 12 cases of monkey pox.

«Monkey pox and its virus are not at the same level of risk as COVID-19 and the coronavirus. No analogies can be made here. It is also difficult to make comparisons “- Minister Niedzielski observes and emphasizes that” the possibility of getting infected with monkey pox is much smaller, quite intensive contact with an infected person is required here “.

How does Poland protect itself against monkey pox?
In an interview with the Minister of Health, the editor-in-chief of MedTvoiLokony, Dr. Anna Zimny-Zając, asked how Poland intends to protect itself and combat the monkey pox virus.
«We have procedures to follow. Each person, even if suspected of being infected, is isolated, an epidemic interview is carried out, and each contact person is under the supervision of the sanitary inspection. We have monkey pox detection tests in Poland. We are buying a vaccine as part of EU purchases, but I would like to point out that only for medics »- said Adam Niedzielski.
