What is Natamycin?

The main ingredient of the antibiotic is natamycin, one tablet contains 25 mg of this substance. The other ingredients are: disodium phosphate anhydrous, sodium citrate anhydrous, magnesium stearate; benzalkonium chloride, pregelatinized corn starch; colloidal anhydrous silica; lactose monohydrate; potato starch; talc.

Each tablet is white and almond-shaped. The package contains 20 tablets packed 4 in a blister.

Use of Natamycin

Natamycin is an antibiotic whose main task is to fight fungal conditions. It fights yeasts and fungi, which very often cause vaginitis and vulvitis.

Natamycin is a vaginal tablet, therefore it dissolves quickly under the influence of body temperature. For this reason, it is possible to accurately distribute the antibiotic over the vaginal walls. Natamycin does not adversely affect the natural bacterial flora, it can be used preventively in antibiotic treatment.

Who shouldn’t use Natamycin?

Natamycin should not be used by people who are allergic to any ingredient of the drug. Menstruating women should not use an antibiotic. During treatment, sexual intercourse should be limited and vaginal irrigation should not be used. Natamycin can be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women.

How to use Natamycin?

The use of drugs should be in accordance with the doctor’s recommendations and the information contained in the leaflet. One tablet of Natamycin is inserted into the vagina using a special applicator.

The tablet should be applied lying down. To do this, place the tablet in a plastic applicator, and then moisten it with water. The applicator is then inserted into the vagina. A special plunger is pressed in succession to allow the tablet to be inserted. Wait a few minutes for the medicine to be completely absorbed. After each use, the applicator should be thoroughly washed with warm water.

Dosage of Natamycin

It is the doctor who determines the form of treatment, but most often one tablet is used for 20 days or two tablets twice a day for 2 days. The use of the drug is recommended at bedtime.

Side effects of Natamycin

So far, no side effects of Natamycin on the body have been reported. However, like any drug, it can cause side effects. Some patients complain of itching or burning in the genital area.

Storage of Natamycin

Keep natamycin out of the sight of children. It should be kept below 25 degrees Celsius. Protect the tablets from light. You should not use this medicine after its expiry date.
