Magnetotherapy is a physiotherapeutic procedure that is part of rehabilitation. It is used in the treatment of various types of joint diseases, bones, osteoporosis, skin diseases, arterial hypertension, as well as female diseases. By affecting cells with a magnetic field, the healing process of tissues is accelerated. Magnetotherapy also reduces pain and has an anti-inflammatory effect.

What is magnetotherapy?

Magnetotherapy is a technique used in rehabilitation that supports the proper functioning of tissues. It is used by many branches of medicine.

The magnetic field has the ability to penetrate the human body and reach every cell of the body. As a result, nutrients and oxygen easily penetrate their interior. The magnetic field affecting the body accelerates the development of connective tissue, as well as the production of bone scarring. It increases the absorption of oxygen by the tissues. It works anti-swelling, anti-inflammatory and pain relief.

Procedure magnetotherapy it does not require special preparation. Remove metal objects (e.g. jewelry, belt), dentures and turn off the phone. Magnetotherapy it is performed through clothing, but also through a plaster cast. The part of the body that requires treatment is placed in a special coil. The patient assumes a lying or sitting position. The treatment consists of 10 treatments lasting from 10 to 30 minutes. Doses and intensity magnetic field are tailored to the individual needs of the patient.

The magnetic field used in physical treatment is static or dynamic. The dynamic field is used more often because it has a frequency close to the natural vibrations of the human body.

Treatment with magnetotherapy it consists in delivering impulses to the patient in three ranges of frequency and intensity. 1 to 5 hertz and 0,5 to 3 militites are recommended for patients with acute inflammation. 5 to 20 hertz and 3 to 5 militites are given to people to treat subacute conditions. From 20 to 59 hertz and 6 to 10 militites are taken by patients diagnosed with chronic diseases.

Indications for magnetotherapy

The indications for magnetic field treatments are:

  1. osteoarthritis of the limbs and joints of the spine,
  2. rheumatoid arthritis,
  3. inflammation of joints and periarticular tissues,
  4. post-traumatic conditions and sports injuries,
  5. hard to heal wounds and burns,
  6. peripheral circulatory disorders,
  7. osteoporosis,
  8. nerve inflammation
  9. disorders of metabolic processes,
  10. inflammation of the bronchi and paranasal sinuses,
  11. inflammation of the ovaries,
  12. ulceration and trophic changes of the lower legs.

Magnetotherapy is defined as a completely safe procedure. Using it even for a very long time does not cause significant side effects. It happens that the first treatments aggravate the symptoms. They only pass with time.

The effects of magnetotherapy

Overall, treatment magnetic field contributes to the normalization of the resting potential of the mucosa. Moreover, it improves the dynamics of ions passing through the said membrane. It also increases the cells’ ability to use oxygen. It has a positive effect on energy changes in the body. Thus, the following can be distinguished effects treatment magnetic field:

  1. improves blood circulation,
  2. strengthens the immune system,
  3. reduces swelling,
  4. has anti-inflammatory properties,
  5. has an analgesic effect,
  6. accelerates the treatment of fractures,
  7. heals bone loss caused by osteoporosis,
  8. affects faster and more effective treatment of joints,
  9. improves the regeneration of soft tissues,
  10. reduces muscle tension,
  11. regenerates nervous tissue.

Listed above effects confirm the thesis that treatment magnetic field has a wide range of applications. Undoubtedly, it improves the quality of life in the case of chronic diseases. In addition, it speeds up recovery in acute inflammation.

Contraindications to magnetotherapy

The most characteristic contraindications do magnetotherapy qualifies:

  1. pregnancy,
  2. Cancer,
  3. tinea,
  4. acute viral and bacterial infection,
  5. tuberculosis,
  6. bleeding tendency,
  7. occlusive and thrombophlebitis,
  8. serious diseases of the heart and circulatory system,
  9. implanted electronic implants,
  10. irradiation with ionizing radiation and radiological examinations.

Treatment magnetic field can only cause side effects in some patients. There are cases of people whose blood pressure has fallen, reaction time is slower, and vision is disturbed.
