La Horton’s disease (sometimes called temporal artérite or cranial arteritis) refers to an inflammatory disease characterized by theinflammation of the blood vessels, in particular the arteries located at the level of the temples (temporal arteries). This disease affects women over 50 more and its origin is not well known. Drug treatment should be administered as soon as the first symptoms appear in order to avoid complications (aneurysm, blindness, stroke).

Description

The arteries are responsible for transporting oxygen-rich blood to the various organs. Horton’s disease is defined by inflammation of the arteries, generally including the temporal artery located at the temple, which is why we speak of temporal arteritis.

Horton’s disease occurs more often in women over 50 (2 to 3 women affected for a man).
