What is GMO in products: explanation, manufacturers

😉 Greetings to my regular and new readers! Many have already resigned themselves and stopped resenting the additives in food. This article “What is GMO in food ..” is for those who continue to struggle for the quality of their lives. Informed means armed!

Modified products

Genetically modified organism (GMO) – the genotype of which has been artificially altered using genetic engineering methods. This definition can be applied to plants, animals and microorganisms. Genetic changes are made for scientific or economic purposes.

The food crisis, which, as they say, will soon threaten humanity, has led to the emergence of genetically modified organisms that have changed the genetic structure of many foods.

Thanks to GMO, hunger has been defeated in many poor countries. The gene mutation changed the rate of maturation of such essential grains as corn, soybeans, and wheat.

However, for all its economic attractiveness, GMOs raise a lot of questions and controversy. No one can say with certainty how genetically modified food will affect a person.

Public unrest led to the fact that the state obliged manufacturers to display information on the presence of GMOs in the composition of a particular food product on labels and packaging.

But, like all good endeavors, this initiative did not lead to anything good. Now on store shelves, all food products have the proud inscription “No GMO”. But we know about 40% of all food that is available to us contains gene mutations.

What foods contain GMOs

Soy

Soy is currently the leader among GMO products. What a shame, the technologies for the production of many food products in our country assume the presence of soy protein in the composition of margarines, sausages, cookies, ice cream, dairy food, sweets, chips, baby food and a huge number of other products.

Corn

GM corn is used to produce: condiments, chewing gum, chips, sauces.

Vegetables fruits

Most often modified: tomatoes, potatoes, sugar beets, strawberries, zucchini.

Tobacco

Smokers, in addition to the main harm from smoking, receive an additional risk, because tobacco is modified to protect it from pests.

It is not so easy to recognize modified products, because they do not differ in smell or taste. And, as you can see, it is quite difficult to avoid genetically modified foods. The following are questioned: bread, flour, sausages, margarine, dairy products, sugar, cereals, vegetables, fruits.
