Enzymatic cosmetics are gaining popularity, and there is a clear explanation for this – it acts very gently, but at the same time effectively renews skin cells. We tell you more about how enzymes work and where to find them.
Another name for enzymes is enzymes. These are catalytic proteins that speed up chemical reactions in the body. In cosmetics, those enzymes are used that uncouple the protein bonds between cells, help the skin say goodbye to those that have already worked their way out. Such exfoliation helps to get rid of the dullness of the skin, return it to a radiant and fresh look, improve complexion and even restore a slight blush to it.
Beneficial enzymatic, or enzymatic, peeling also affects the relief of the skin – it becomes smoother and more even, and the pores less noticeable. A huge plus of enzyme cosmetics is that it acts very gently, so even owners of very sensitive and excessively dried skin, that is, those who are contraindicated in scrubs, can use it. It is also suitable for those for whom acid-based products turned out to be too aggressive.
As a rule, enzyme peels come in the form of a mask, which must be applied for 5-15 minutes and then washed off. This is due to the fact that the time of exposure to enzymes should be limited, otherwise, having dealt with dead cells, they will take on younger and more necessary ones. That is why the exposure time indicated on the label should be observed.
Those who avoid animal ingredients in cosmetics should not worry – enzymes are taken from plants.
There is another type of enzyme-based products – powder cleansers, which can be used almost every day. They really are produced in the form of a fine powder, which, upon contact with water, dissolves and turns into a gentle foam. Such powders exfoliate very gently, and the lasting effect is due to frequent use.
There are more and more such products being released, as they help keep the skin in optimal condition without too much fuss. In addition, it is convenient to take them with you on a trip, even if you are traveling light – such powder will not be counted as a liquid cosmetic in hand luggage.
By the way, for those who do not want to use gentle exfoliation with such powder, but do not want to switch to more aggressive products, experts advise washing your face once or twice a week in a slightly different way – by applying the powder to the sponge, massaging the skin. The movements should be accurate, and the pressure should be small.
The vast majority of enzymes that are used in cosmetics are obtained from plants. For example, papain is taken from the unripe papaya fruit and is one of the most common enzymes in skin peels. Another – ficin – is isolated from the juice of figs and other ficus. Bromelain is found in pineapple stems and fruits, as well as in other bromeliad plants.
So those who avoid ingredients of animal origin in cosmetics should not worry – enzymes are taken from plants.
