What is diamond peeling

“Diamond peeling” sounds luxurious, you can’t argue. We tell you what is really hidden behind such a brilliant name.

What is a diamond peel?

Diamond peeling is a kind of mechanical peeling (dermabrasion), during which the skin is polished with the help of nozzles covered with diamond chips and vacuum: the “ring” with diamond edges, rotating, processes the epidermis, cleaning off all unnecessary, and the vacuum, like a vacuum cleaner, collects exfoliated skin particles and impurities.

This resurfacing is also called “diamond facial cleansing”, this definition is partly true, but not entirely correct. Yes, no doubt, in the course of diamond-vacuum peeling, the smallest particles of dirt and excess sebum are removed along with dead cells, the skin really becomes cleaner, matte, especially after the course. However, this is more of a “side effect” of the main action of the procedure – exfoliation and skin renewal. As such, the extraction of comedones and blackheads, as with classical cleaning, does not occur.

The effect of diamond face peeling

Diamond peeling of the face, like any dermabrasion, is aimed at renewing and smoothing the skin. But there is also a nice bonus: due to the vacuum effect, the nozzle not only sucks up impurities, but also massages the skin, improving local blood circulation and lymph flow. What is the result?

  • Skin tone and microrelief are evened out.

  • Smoothness and radiance appear.

  • Reduces the appearance of pores.

  • Improves complexion.

  • Increases skin tone.

  • Pigmented and stagnant spots become lighter and may even disappear completely.

Hardware diamond peeling: pros and cons

Diamond peeling is a superficial procedure, only the stratum corneum is involved. And this distinctive feature determines both the advantages and disadvantages of the technique – we will analyze the pros and cons.

Let’s start with the positive, the procedure:

  • fast;

  • painless;

  • delicate, almost does not cause redness;

  • does not cause peeling;

  • does not require rehabilitation.

Diamond peeling is carried out on any area of the face (including eyelids) and body (neck, décolleté, arms, elbows).

The main disadvantage of diamond peeling is that the technique is ineffective for deep skin changes: post-acne scars, deep wrinkles, dark age spots. And, as our expert Maria Nevskaya notes, “like any peel, it is not suitable for very sensitive skin with a broken barrier.”

Indications for diamond peeling

Diamond resurfacing is effective for correcting only superficial skin changes:

  • uneven terrain;

  • fine wrinkles;

  • thickening of the stratum corneum of the epidermis;

  • postcane spots (not deep);

  • expanded pores;

  • superficial pigmentation,

  • rough skin.

Diamond peeling: procedure protocol

The procedure protocol for hardware diamond peeling is short and simple (of course, for a professional).

  1. Diagnostics, according to the results of which the appropriate nozzles are selected.

  2. Preparation: make-up removal and application of antiseptic.

  3. Treatment of the skin with a nozzle, which in the process may vary depending on the specific area.

  4. The final step is to apply a soothing mask.

  5. On average, the skin treatment takes 30 minutes, and the whole procedure takes no more than an hour.

Rules for skin care after diamond cleansing

Since the diamond peel procedure is gentle and does not require rehabilitation, no significant changes in care need to be made. The only thing you should refrain from within five days after the procedure:

  • any scrubs and peels;

  • products containing alcohol;

  • bath and sauna.

Also, to prevent pigmentation within a week after the procedure, you should protect the skin from ultraviolet rays with an SPF of at least 30, especially at the time of high solar activity.

How often can a diamond peel be done?

How often you can (and should) do diamond peeling is determined individually. Sometimes a maintenance procedure once every 2-3 months is enough. With severe problems, you may need a course of an average of five procedures with a frequency of once every one to two weeks. So with visible skin defects, it makes sense to take a picture for comparative photos “before and after” of diamond peeling only after the completion of the full course.
