The coronavirus is able to survive outside the human body on various surfaces and everyday objects. The life span of these viruses is limited in time and conditions. Coronaviruses die faster outside, where they are exposed to solar radiation or unfavorable air humidity. The conditions prevailing in closed rooms may favor the longer survival of pathogens, hence the need for regular cleaning and disinfection of the apartment.

In the fight against the coronavirus, the cleaning agents that everyone has at home are quite limited in their effectiveness. Ordinary cleaning of frequently touched surfaces, such as tables, desks, door handles and light switches, can be done with soapy water. However, stronger preparations will be needed for more thorough disinfection.
There is no way to get rid of the coronavirus from the surface with popular household cleaning products a habit of baking soda, citric acid or vinegar. While they have some limited disinfecting effect, they are not effective at removing coronavirus from household surfaces.

How to disinfect household surfaces?

How to clean clothes and other fabrics?

In the case of clothes, bedding, towels, as well as curtains or carpets, it’s best to do washing at the highest temperature allowed by the fabric. The recommended minimum, which will maximize the chance of killing viruses persistent in various fabrics, is 60 degrees C.
The indication for the use of this particular temperature can be related to previous studies on another coronavirus – SARS-CoV (or SARS-CoV-1), which caused the SARS epidemic in 2002. It was then found that this particular strain is killed when exposed to a temperature of 15 degrees C for at least 56 minutes.
