What happens if you make spicy whiskey from a dry mix – I share the results of the experiment

I already wrote on this site that my cousins and cousins gave me a kit for the production of several types of alcoholic beverages. The set included a large wooden box filled with Styrofoam balls that protected a one-liter bottle, a set of 6 different herb mixes for drinks, a breathalyzer, and even a faceted glass.

I have already put in an alcoholic infusion from oak blocks, with the hope of getting something like brandy. Now I’m going to try the rest of the herb bags. This time it was the turn of the Spicy Whiskey.

The story was shared by blog subscriber Eugene.

Why I decided to make alcohol myself

Since I have been distilling mash into pure rectified alcohol for several years now, I have the opportunity to make any tinctures. And I immediately decided to find a bunch of different recipes on the Internet and make a lot of different tinctures.

Gift set.

But it is one thing to add berries or some herbs to alcohol, another thing is to find spices that allow you to get a taste very close to the original drinks. And it was these herbs and spices that my relatives gave me.

The second drink was Spicy Whiskey. But, remembering the first unsuccessful experience, I already without enthusiasm opened the treasured gift box.

Packaging of Spicy Whiskey.

What ingredients are required

The instructions suggest using ready-made whiskey or vodka. Since I have pure alcohol, I decided to try making a pure drink with these herbs.

For production I needed:

  • 5 kg of sugar for mixing mash (250 rubles);
  • 10 liters of filtered water;
  • packaging of wine yeast, 190 grams (250 rubles);
  • a package of herbs from the set (the whole set cost about 6 rubles, so this bag costs about 000 rubles).

I will make a litre.

I accidentally got honey in the photo, although, perhaps, I will add it to the finished drink.

It is clear that all these tinctures are just for fun, because I am engaged in the serious production of cognac for my own use in oak barrels. But don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, don’t throw it away.

Moreover, alcohol with the help of a distillation column is obtained not only pure, but also very cheap. The cost of the drink is about 150 rubles per liter of 96,5 degrees. Well, I began to insist.

The cooking process

The cooking process consists of two stages:

Rectification preparation:

  • Mixing mash based on sugar, water and yeast.
  • Distillation in distillation mode to obtain distillate. Usually a 70-degree liquid comes out.
  • Distillation in rectification mode, in which all volatile alcohols, essential oils and harmful methyl alcohol are cut off.

Actually, whiskey infusion:

  • I poured rectified alcohol with a strength of 96,5 degrees into a separate container.
  • I diluted the alcohol with distilled water to 40 degrees.
  • He poured the prepared diluted alcohol into a bottle.
  • I poured the powder, as it is written in the instructions.
  • Close the lid and mix thoroughly.

Dissolve herbs in alcohol.

At first, it turned out to be a rather turbid liquid.

What result did I get

The instructions say that you need to withstand the drink for a week. And so, a week has passed. The drink brightened up on its own.

Self-clarified drink.

Now, right at this moment, when I am writing this article, I am taking a sample from the finished “whiskey”.

Now, just a minute….

I added a frozen cube to the glass (instead of ice) and it tasted great drink! The taste of natural whiskey can be traced in both smell and taste. And the spice that is added to the bag allows you to stay a long aftertaste.

Well, we can say that alcohol, even not infused in a real oak barrel, is quite possible to drink. Probably, connoisseurs will immediately figure out what’s what. Personally, I quite liked Spicy Whiskey.

Have you tried making potions like this? It is clear that not everyone has the opportunity to get pure alcohol, but they can also be made using good vodka.

Dear readers, remember that alcohol abuse harms your body. Take care of yourself!
