What glasses you need to have in the house so that you can serve any alcohol

Recently I was distracted from work by a call from my wife. It turned out that she had looked after some “terribly cute” glasses. When I asked her what they were for, I heard a truly exhaustive answer: “For everything. And in general, they are just beautiful!

Well, how can you argue. I will not say that we already have a huge collection of various glasses, glasses, glasses at home. My wife almost never drinks alcohol, but my passion for studying this topic influenced her as well. She is so supportive of me.

I wondered if there were glasses that would go with everything. After all, not everyone has the opportunity to buy dishes for every drink that they want to try.

What is used to drink strong alcohol

When I first began to be interested in various subtleties associated with the use of alcohol, I was surprised to learn that the shape of glasses for certain drinks was not chosen by chance.

It is determined by the temperature of the drink, the area of its contact with air, and so on. Let’s try to figure out what glasses you need to have in order to properly serve any alcohol.

The strongest drinks are drunk in small sips, which means that they need glasses of the appropriate size. For vodka, glasses are provided (small glasses with a stem) and stacks of various sizes.

As a rule, they expand towards the top (so that the smell does not hit the nose sharply, but has time to dissipate). They can also serve strong liquors and bitters.

For brandy and cognac, there are snifters – special glasses with a narrowed top. They are also good to serve whiskey without additives (cola and ice). The narrower the top, the stronger the concentration of the aroma of the drink.

Whiskey is usually served in glasses without legs with a thick bottom and walls. These are either toggle switches or the so-called rock glasses. They are used when serving whiskey with ice, cola and other additives. The volume of whiskey tumblers is usually 200-250 ml.

From what it is customary to drink weak alcohol

Sparkling wines are served in glasses that do not allow the gas to evaporate quickly. Design features – elongated shape, narrowed top. Basically, these are flute glasses. They also have a long stem so that you can not touch the main part of the glass with your hands. This helps keep the drink cool.

Red wine opens at a higher temperature, glasses with it are allowed to be clasped with palms. Usually they have a fairly large volume (300-400 ml), spherical shape (with an expansion in the center). So the wine retains its aroma and warms up evenly.

We are not accustomed to seeing red wines served in glasses without a stem, but this is quite acceptable and convenient, in this case the stem does not play the main role.

Beer is usually drunk in large volumes, so glasses for serving it can hold 500-700 ml. Their shape is usually curved, which allows you to comfortably wrap your hand around a large and heavy glass, or a handle is provided.

Cocktail glasses, perhaps, have the most varieties: expanded at the top and narrowed, with and without handles, wide and narrow, round and cylindrical. It all depends on the type of cocktail.

The two types most commonly used are the classic cocktail glass (triangular, flared at the top) and the tropical cocktail glass (elongated, curved, short stem).

Is it possible to pick up universal glasses for all types of alcohol

It is very difficult to find one set of universal glasses for all types of alcohol. For example, I couldn’t do it. If only because there is no way to drink beer from something other than a classic beer glass or mug.

In my opinion, the most versatile small toggle switches. From them you can drink strong drinks and some cocktails. However, wine in a tumbler will quickly lose flavor.

I believe that every home should have its own ideal set of glasses. If you and your friends rarely drink wine, but prefer strong alcohol and cocktails, then you need to choose stacks and glasses for mixes (shots or longs).

If you prefer wine, and drink beer rarely and only in pubs, then it makes no sense to buy glasses with a volume of more than 200-300 ml.

How to choose and how many glasses for alcohol in the house

When choosing glasses for the home, you can stop at three sets.

The first is for strong alcohol. It is better to take a medium-sized snifter, into which you can pour cognac, whiskey, and vodka.

The second is for wine. I advise you to stop at glasses with a long stem with a slightly narrowed top. It’s great if they are a little rounded. In these glasses you can serve both regular and sparkling wines.

The third is for beer. A good set of classic beer glasses will always come in handy.

Cocktail glasses are optional. Few people make cocktails at home, so you can do without them or, if necessary, replace them with ordinary juice glasses.

Excessive alcohol consumption is harmful to your health. Take care of yourself!
