We are serious about choosing clothes for work or special occasions, but at home we sometimes allow ourselves to wear frankly unkempt things. Meanwhile, the attitude towards oneself is manifested precisely behind closed doors. What do the things we wear at home testify to?
What are you wearing when strangers can’t see you? Stretched T-shirt? A bathrobe with a permanent stain? Ripped jeans? Beautiful and comfortable home clothes are a matter of self-respect and high self-esteem. If, passing by the mirror, you notice a shapeless figure in an old bathrobe, and looking down, “admire” the worn-out slippers, this will definitely not give you confidence.
What you wear around the house can say a lot about you.
Bathrobe
A solid, voluminous (terry or velor) dressing gown gives a feeling of comfort, warmth, security and transmits the signal “I am at home” to the brain. A man in a dressing gown is relaxed and calm, he does not run anywhere and is not in a hurry. Switching from a business suit to a bathrobe when you get home is the best way to switch from working to relaxing.
In this sense, it is more correct to choose a plain robe of pleasant soothing colors – pale lilac or pale pink, beige, burgundy. White is not the right color, as such gowns may be associated with a hospital or hotel.
But a beautiful silk dressing gown, decorated with lace, not only sets you in a romantic mood, but also increases a woman’s self-esteem. This outfit reflects her love for herself and desire to be loved.
At the same time, the line between a bathrobe for relaxation and a bathrobe that has become part of a woman’s home life is very thin.
During the Soviet past, dressing gowns of any color – as a rule, from chintz in a cheerful flower – were an integral part of the wardrobe. They were worn for years, and the joy of buying a new one was sometimes akin to the joy of buying a dress. Of course, in those days there were no other home clothes, so women in tracksuits (most often brought from abroad) were considered fashionistas or were criticized because they could afford to show their figure.
An important point: it is better not to have a bathrobe to have a serious conversation with your husband or to bring up a naughty child. He will not be taken seriously by the household, because they associate him with a “kind mother”, but not with a person who is determined to take decisive action.
Sportswear
This is activity and tone, an opportunity to emphasize a good shape or remind yourself that you need to work on a figure. A T-shirt and leggings in a bright color will cheer you up on a cloudy day and give you a boost of energy.
When choosing sports items for the home, you need to focus on convenience, material and style, and not on sports characteristics that are important for fitness. Home clothing in sports style, first of all, should be lighter, more comfortable and pleasant to the body.
Jeans
This is not only comfort and familiar everyday clothes, but also a way to express an active position: “I’m ready to break loose and run on business right now.”
T-shirt and home trousers or pajamas
Today it is the main type of home women’s clothing. It allows you to express yourself in as many ways as possible. It could be:
- romantic set with ruffles in delicate pastel colors;
- bright color mood kit with humorous inscriptions or cartoon characters;
- a set in a sporty style, emphasizing the figure as favorably as possible;
- a riot of colors and prints that reflect your inner state;
- a summer set with light shorts or a cozy set with warm trousers for winter;
- identical sets for mother and daughter (family look).
Home wardrobe rules
Home clothes should correspond to the state of mind or create a certain mood. If you want to go in for sports and there is no internal motivator, buy a tracksuit. Apathy due to bad weather and off-season? Wear a brightly colored T-shirt and printed trousers. Do you want to say “I myself”? Wear jeans. Tired of being the “iron lady” at work? Put on a soft bathrobe at home.
What is unacceptable in a home image? First of all, untidy and heavily worn clothes. Everyone has favorite things that we are ready to carry for years. But they all have a shelf life. You need to be able to say goodbye to your favorite bathrobe in time, so that one day you don’t turn into an “ugly queen”.
If you fell in love with some home outfit at first sight, it is better to immediately buy two or three sets that you will wear for several years. These costs will pay off with your well-groomed home.
It is necessary to regularly go through your home wardrobe, getting rid of torn, worn and stretched clothes. Take a critical look at each item and answer the following questions:
- Is there anything left in it other than convenience? Does she make you happy?
- And most importantly – how do you look in the eyes of the household? Do you command respect and admiration?
- What example are you setting for your daughter? What model of a woman is created by your son?
- Who are you for a husband – a beautiful wife or a “house worker”?
- If guests suddenly rush in, will you be ashamed of your appearance?
Parting with your favorite things and habits is a way out of your comfort zone. But without saying goodbye to the old, the new does not appear. No wonder psychologists always recommend starting a new life, parting with old things. Let it be only about home clothes.
Think about what kind of state you want to emphasize or evoke with household items, and boldly embody your desires. We spend almost a third of our lives at home, and let this life be bright, stylish and beautiful.
